Default 2ND to 3RD shift question

Hey Guys,

Just a quick question about the transmission: When accelerating and going from 2nd to 3rd, my transmission seems to hold RPMs a little higher (around 2000) for probably anywhere from one to three seconds right when it shifts into 3rd, and then it seems to settle down and the torque converter "locks up" with the transmission (back down to 1200 to 1400 RPMs). I'm not usually a hard accelerator, and try to keep her sipping gas instead of chugging it.

Hopefully I'm using the right lingo, but I'm just wondering if this is normal because it only seems to do so when going from 2nd to 3rd, and not with any other shifts?

I have the 3.5 eco and 3.55 diff

Thanks in advance for the responses

How many miles are on it? These transmissions learn and adapt to the driver over time. I had some random quirks myself, but after 1k miles things cleared up for me.

Just hit 2000 last week, do you think it would still be in the learning process?

That wouldn't be in the learning process. Has your batterie been disconnected?

Have never had the battery disconnected, was thinking and I will try shifting it through manual mode on the commute home tonight and see how it behaves

Was able to take a quick video, you can see where it shifts into 3rd at about 2 seconds in, but the RPMs stay right where they were until about 4 seconds in. Am i just being overly sensitive or should I consider getting it looked at?

FYI, hit a bump in the road going into 4th at the end of the video, it wasn't the transmission

This might be normal if 3rd gear is quite a bit taller than 2nd. Don't know the specs on the trans though but if someone could find it, it might give you the answer. My Xterra was a 6-speed manual trans and there was barely a difference between 4th and 5th so I usually just skipped 4th and shifted from 3rd right into 5th in city driving. Guessing the F-150 might have the opposite problem with 2&3.
