I hear everyone's DTE is off no matter the tank size. The problem that members that have upgraded to larger tanks "after' purchase with a 23 gal. tank have been experiencing is the inability of the truck's PCM to recognize the larger capacity tank.

And these are obviously for when you might be going somewhere that there isn't or may not be a gas station and you wish to be able to get back to one when you're done playing.

It beats the Hell out of paying $1,500-$2,000 for a 36 gallon tank upgrade after the fact and it works the same on those 36 gallon tanks when they run empty too.
I said $100 because in your post you said for less than $100 so I just assumed shipped to your door must be close to $100. Honestly I didn't care enough to find the right number. And you're right about home Depot stuff being cheap Chinese crap. Personally though I have never ever had an issue with expansion. Hell I keep gas in my 3 gallon tank for my Jon boat and never have had an issue. Personally I could never spend $75 on a cheap tank to store gas in my bed. Seems silly to me but hey to each is own and maybe to you it seems silly not to carry gas around.

And Chris is 100% right about the DTE issue. It's a matter of telling the truck it now has a 36 gallon tank the truck still thinks it has the 23. I'm really hoping someone finds a work around for this but I doubt anyone will.

That's the only thing keeping me from upgrading. Still kicking myself for listening to the salesman and not ordering the bigger tank with the truck. I hadn't owned a pickup since my 93 extended cab and really thought nothing of the 23 gallon size. I don't want to carry extra fuel in cans in my bed either but I figured that if I'm going to then I want something of higher quality that is well sealed and with expansion room as they'll be under my black tonneau cover. I'll keep one full when I go to my cabin on weekends and both for a road trip.

Why would I need a quote? If you go to a ford parts website you can get everything you need and swap tanks yourself. It really doesn't matter to me if the dte is correct I can just look a my gauge.

I went to the dealership and have gotten a quote for the swap 23gal to a 36gal tank , now I expect that prices here in anchorage may be a bit higher than there in the lower 48 but for $2,400 they claim that my truck will have no glitches with the DTE , IDS or such . I drop the truck off on tue and as I've been told the proof is in the pudding and sometime Wed. I will hopefully be able to say that the cost will justify the means and that I won't have to cry (lol) I also wish I had held out for a truck with a 36gal tank but the dealership waved the truck I have now under my nose and except for the tank it had every bell and whistle I had hoped for , I thought I could live without the larger tank but find it pry's on my mind ... So here I am

I guess my biggest peeve of this is that I'll be spending double the original cost for an incomplete setup. I have no problem at all buying the parts and doing it myself. Paying twice what I should have... I'm OK with for my lack of foresight... Having it all not jive with the on board computer on a $54,000 truck... Aggravating!

No, not me but I'll pay $600 and write off the $200 for my stupidity. If I can get it to jive with my dash readout.

Yeah I sure wish I would have got the big tank from the factory. For normal driving I think 23 would be fine but I just bought a travel trailer and probably go through that fast. My Ranger only has a 19 gallon tank so 23 is better than what I'm used to.
