2018 wheel data
In fact, this thread piques my interest to get past my layman's theory and learn how weight ratings are derived by manufacturers. So far, my internet searches have yielded plenty of discussion on the subject but no official or definitive answers like formulas or calculations. Most discussions and regulations start with the rating and go from there. I want to know how the rating is derived in the first place. The consensus is that manufacturers set their vehicle ratings, but how they do that seems to be proprietary knowledge.
Please pardon my technical tangent. Now back to the subject of finding wheel specifications.
If I'm following your math and your intent, it looks like you want a pair of wheels whose capacity matches the 4800# axle rating. According to the provided 2018 F-150 wheel specs chart, none of the OEM offerings are up to that 2400# wheel per spec, at best short by 125# per side. I diverted my search to wheel load rating specifications and came up nearly empty-handed on that subject too. It would be easier if we were typical consumers. Apparently, being a well-informed consumer is more challenging.
