How did you get past the grill shutters?

You can do this with shutters in place. You can fit a tool in between for each nut. if you drop a nut you can easily retrieve it with a magnet.

Can the shutters be opened manually?

 

No disrespect. We didn't say we were the first. I couldn't find anything on video showing this technique. In fact, thanks, I didn't know about this post until you brought it to my attention. Props to @rohada for posting this February 4th on the forum. I don't believe so but if the truck is warm or it is warm outside it shouldn't be an issue.

Yes they can. I did this method when I installed my emblem a while back. My shutters were only about half open. I reached in and gently, but firmly opened them the rest of the way. Easy
