Exactly my concern. And if you’re going to replace the short block and the head is damaged wouldn’t it be better to just do a whole crate motor new? I am hoping some miscommunication is happening here.

Ok new update. Just got off the phone with the dealer and they are doing a short block replacement and replacing only the head side that was damaged and salvaging and re-using the other side. Said the Ford warranty rep said it was cheaper for them. Well no ****. I’m extremely disappointed with this. I paid 45k for a new truck and now it’s a patched together motor. The part that worries me is the other side is waiting to fail a mile or two after it gets put back together at the dealership. Calling my Ford service rep later and seeing what can be done about it. Anyone else ever go through this?

I would say it will be very difficult to get them to do a long block after already making this decision. I would see if you can get an ESP, or at least an extended powertrain warranty.

Talked to the service rep and she is working on getting a long block. Said she will call me back tomorrow. I already have the 75k bumper to bumper upgrade over the 60k that I had on my last F150. Honestly after all this there is no way any more extended is going to be any kind of consolation for the aggravation.

Kind of unsettling they have all those parts in the bed like that. It’s not like the lot is fenced or anything and crack heads don’t care about being on camera. Hope no one steals them lol. I mean is it too much to ask to maybe stick them on a shelf inside or even stack them in a corner? Maybe I’m just being obtuse.

I would be concerned too. Looking at the pictures, what condition will the paint be in the bed of your truck as well as on the parts removed. It looks pristine now, any new scratches, etc. after it is all put back together?

It doesn't sound like you are getting a "patched together motor." Sounds more like you are getting a new shortblock, a new head, and the other head will be refreshed. You can/should ask them what they will be doing with the other head. If they have to deck it for reinstallation (often standard practice, but yours is pretty low mileage so hard to say), then you could argue that doing so will possibly affect your ability to refresh that head down the road and that they should in fact provide both replacement heads to prevent you from inheriting that issue. I know that some heads can be decked once or twice and after that they need to be replaced to maintain appropriate amount of material, compression ratios, etc.

If the shop knows what they are doing, assembly of your motor might have more QC than what happens at the factory. I would want to know who was assembling the thing. If it was just some random dealer monkey I would be concerned.

BUT, all that to say that you might not be able to simply demand a new long block if other repair options are suitable and appropriate. Good luck.
