I decided to start my own thread. I’ve seen similar threads on this type of situation so maybe mine can help shed some light on someone else’s issues. My brand spanking new Blue Jean Metallic STX scab motor locked up. I was driving it roughly an hour and had just pulled into the school to pick up my 16 year old. Sitting there in the parking lot with the motor running and the “auto start/stop” feature turned off the truck shut down. The warning in the dash said “ auto start/stop shutdown” “shift to park” “manual restart required”. So I shift to park and nothing. It’s dead. No startercranking. No clicking like the battery is dead. Nothing. It sounds like it’s locked up. As you can guess here is where the fun begins. I call Ford roadside assistance. It’s free and obviously a warranty issue so why not. Three hours later I’m still waiting on a tow truck. Madder than a hornet. They never sent the tow company the paperwork or the tow company misunderstood whatever. I called every 15 minutes after the first hour and it still took 3 1/2 to get them there. Now off to the nearest dealer. I did not buy the truck from them but have bought two new vehicles from them and have had plenty of oil changes and even some recall warranty work done there. They tell me they will get to it in the morning on Tuesday. Call all day Tuesday and get the run around. Go in personally Wednesday, after I called Ford corporate and got a case manager. She says they will give me a loaner right away. They do, a 2018 F150 ecoboost regular cab. Perfectly fine with me. They finally get the damn thing in Friday afternoon and remove the tranny to try and get the flywheel to turn and that baby won’t budge. Motor locked up solid. Now we are waiting on Fod corporate engineer to tell them what they can do and they think he wants to actually come look at the vehicle. I’ll try to keep this updated as I get information. Very bummed to say the least but life sucks sometimes.

That engine must have had a fatal defect in it somewhere? I assume they'll just throw a new one in and it'll be fine.

veru odd for any f150 engine. hope this gets fixed for you soon.

Anything mechanical can break. Usually the catastrophic failures happen early. Hopefully Ford will put in a new engine and you will be good to go.

Hoping the best for you.....I would be irritated as well. A rare occurrence, but that is of little consolation I realize.

If the engine mechanically locked up why didn't the starter try to start the engine, OP said it didn't even have a click. And he didn't mention any strange noises before the failure. I was thinking it would be an electronic fault not mechanical. A catastrophic failure this early indicates the engine was not assembled correctly at the factory and/or had a faulty part installed during assembly. Either way it was doomed for an early death before it was even installed in your truck.

Dang that sucks! Sorry to hear that man. Slightly off topic but goes to speak of the quality of assembly line. I had a rattle in my door panel. I was going to add keypad entry anyway so I removed the door panel when the part arrived. As soon as I removed the door panel I find a 10mil nut floating around in the top of the door panel. It took me a minute to figure out that it was the same nut that secures the mirror. It was tucked in a bracket near the top of the door just below the mirror. The person assembling the truck must have dropped the nut and instead of looking for it just grabbed another and left the "extra" one in the door. I get that crap happens but reading these forums makes me realize that there is more and more of it going on. In the name of speed and profit, quality and accuracy get lost. This is not exclusive to Ford but damn guys......get it together. It may be that the internet has given a louder voice to problems but you would think that manufacturers would realize that and re-emphasize quality. It only takes one video of a lousy FedEx guy chucking a TV over a fence to give the rest of the company a bad name.

Wow, i'm sorry to hear that! I've got a 2018 5.0 SCAB STX too, had a few issues, but since have been resolved. It must be really frustrating, hope it gets resolved quickly!

Dude I'm almost in the exact same boat. I have a 2017 XL STX with 2.7L, had it about 12 months and put a little over 17k miles on it and its completely dead. Heads blow, debris and shavings everywhere inside the bay. It's been at the dealership since Monday and they're waiting on Ford to approve a new long block engine assembly. At least you got a decent loaner, my 6'5" 350lb ass is climbing in and out of a hybrid Fusion. Life sucks sometimes.

It made no noises before it went. Just shut down. Thats exactly what I was thinking that it was electrical. I thought the auto start/stop had somehow malfunctioned and was refusing to let the ignition turn anything on. It just thuds when you turn the key. No clicks or anything. The tow driver right away said it sounded like the motor locked up and he was right.
