2018 Oil Drain Plug
#51
If you slowly unscrew and hold it keeping the flow to a min then it makes no mess. They only time I might get a few drops is when I screw on the prefilled filter but other than that, it's very clean. I actually like the factory plug.

I did the same thing and I am in favor of the plug. However, I don't think I had an issue with the sway bar being in the way for my oil drain. My plug pointed towards the passenger side wheel and I dont remember there being any access difficulties other than removing that shield.

I just did the first oil change on my 2.7 with the plastic plug. I was fully prepared after reading all these horror stories, but it went just fine, didn't spill a drop. The plug came off by hand and I just held it partially out of the hole to control the gush, then once it slowed down, just let it go for 20 minutes. The only thing I didn't like about the plug, when installed back in the pan, it just sort of snaps into place, held there by a tiny ridge in the pan. Checked several times to make sure it was locked.
As for the filter, it has the cartridge style on the top side of engine, and was very easy to change. No mess there either.

I too just did my 3.5 with plastic first oil change, and with caution and patience it was nearly mess free ( strong winds blew oil around a bit ugg)
I did however install a Ronin for future changes, and because I like bling where it’ll never be seen! LOL
5000 miles from now I’ll post a Ronin change video 👍🏻

Did mine this weekend. I too held the plug partially out while the majority of the oil drained out. No fuss no muss. I did have two minor issues. One was getting the small o-ring on the filter housing. Finally got it done. Had to show it who's boss. The second was my own doing. Bought a socket and ratchet for the oil-filter housing. Wanted to see if it fit. The socket wasn't attached fully to the ratchet and it dropped int the bowels of the engine compartment. Finally got it out. Over all it was an easy change.
