Default 2018 Lariat Autowipers

Today was the first time I had to use the wipers. I’m used to intermittent wipers, this is the first time I’ve had autowipers and I’m not impressed. There were several times where the wipers just decided to go to a rapid wipe, two of those I was sitting at a light. Anyone else have this issue? I re-read that section of my owners manual tonight and it says the adjustment on the stalk is the sensitivity (as opposed to the delay of a normal intermittent wiper). I assume the first click is least sensitive and all the way just before “on” is high sensitivity? Is there a way to just turn off the auto and use them as a normal intermittent wiper?

They are a hit and a miss. I have had turn it off a few times for completely dry wipes. It is weird sometime it work great next time its annoyng as hell.
Cant it be turned of from the dash controls. I know the auto high beams can be. Have to look in the am.

Not worth it and if your shield gets a crack it will cost you way more to replace.

You can turn off the auto sensing wipers in the dash menu somewhere. They still function normally when you manually turn them on, they just don't try to outsmart the weather.

I find that most of the time they work as intended. Sometimes they get confused. It seems to happen mostly at night when the wet windshield gets hit by light at odd angles. I've found them really effective when passing large transport trucks on the highway in wet conditions. They speed up nicely when entering the spray plume, and go back to normal when past the truck. All without needing to take my hands off the wheel at a critical time. The pluses outweigh the minuses for me.

Yes thanks Ford. Because there are people who would stare at the message center going through menus to adjust wiper settings while careening through the rain at 70 mph.

Actually if you look at the parts prices, the auto wiper windshield is $6 cheaper then the regular wiper version.

Now if you have the lane keep assist then that cost more to replace since you need to recalibrate the system.

My 2016's auto wipers worked well, but my 18's are very flaky. Work every time if you test with a hose. Just turned them off and use the the variable control.

So far auto wipers have worked very well for my 2017. No complaints...
