Default 2018 Intermittent A/C Help

I have started to notice lately that my air is not working as it should and I wanted to see if anyone else has had this issue. When I put my air on max A/C it blows pretty hard and its relatively cool (cooler than outside) but not like it should be. In the past if I click the A/C button on and off there is a distinct sound difference in the air, accompanied by the different feeling air. Now when I click the A/C button on and off, there isnt any sound difference and the air feels pretty much the same. Two days ago I was running errand around town and I had it on Max A/C, after about 30 minutes of driving, the air all of a sudden got a lot stronger/louder and started to get really cold as it should be. I dont know why it is taking so long and why it is so intermittent. Yesterday I was driving around for about the same amount of time and the strong cold air never came on. Even if I am parked for a while, I dont see an water puddles below my truck like you normally would. I'm not sure if it is because of the 100 degree air outside or the compressor is going out. Wondering if anyone knows some easy checks I could do?

This sounds like your Air Inlet Door [aka: Recirculation Damper] is not operating as it should. It controls whether the air is pulled in from the outside or recirculated from the cab. Max A/C should position the door in the recirculation mode and you should then hear the difference in the sound. If you can perform a DTC scan with FORScan or diagnostic scan tool look for a B1083. It could be an actuator motor issue or possibly something in the ducting causing the door to bind. It is a real pain to replace this motor.

I thought it was the recirc door also but I opened the side panel on the glovebox and looked in at the door while I clicked the recirc button and the door moves all the way up and down each time. Surprisingly today the air is working correctly today. i got under the front of the truck and confirmed the A/C clutch was activating when I turned the A/C on and it was.

Your issue could have being something that got in the ducting and caused a partial binding of the door and it eventually corrected itself. Pull the cab filter out and see if it has caught anything.

Default Change Cabin Air Filter back to an OEM filter

I just had my 2018 xlt in dealer shop for first ac service at 63,000 miles, ac didn’t seem cool enough during heavy loads (towing trailer on hot days). Shop topped off the new 1234a Freon and it’s been working fine, measure cabin temp at center dash vent. Drove it for a month or so, still didn’t seem like air flow was as much as when new. For the last couple years I’ve been replacing cabin filter every 6 months with activated charcoal filters (we live in mountains with all gravel roads that throw a ton of dust). I called my Ford mechanic about air still not seeming to be cool enough, and he immediately told me to shift back to OEM cabin filter, which I did and wow what a difference in temperature and air flow.

Bottom line fix (for me anyway) was: 1. Have the ac service done/Freon checked for leaks and top off. 2. Use Motorcraft OEM cabin filters.

I am also struggling with this same issue.I have changed cabin air filter twice, both times with OEM filter. My air works fine when it’s below 90 or so. Any other thoughts?

@2018 5.0 Lariat Welcome to the forum. Yours might also be in need of topping off the Freon in the system.

The dealership I brought it to, checked the level and replaced all of the Freon.
