Default 2018 5.0 Headers

Does anybody have any experience with headers on a new dual injected 5.0? I was wondering what kind of power and sound you could get from them. Unfortunately I live in New York, so I don't think I can put long tubes on it (i'm pretty sure we've adopted CARB requirements, no idea if shops doing inspections would catch that). The only thing I've come across are shorty headers, not sure if they're worth the time and money.

IMO your money would be better spent with a tune with more gains in HP and Torque, its also a hell of a lot easier.

If you have to deal with CARB it's going get messy in any case. There is some hidden HP in the 2018 5.0 but exhaust isn't it's problem.

Longtubes work very well on the 18 5.0's. But not without a tune. Since the ECU is a torque model ECU, it won't make any more power with modifications unless you tune it to do so.

I agree, I would also wait until the truck was out of warrant before tuning it.

If he wants headers he’s probably not worried about warranty. I voided most of mine the day after I bought it...and it’s completely voided now. Life is too short to drive boring stock trucks.

As to the question at hand. The 5.0 exhaust manifolds actually aren’t horrible. They’re good enough that the trouble of short headers isn’t worth it. IMHO even longtubes are a stretch from a cost/benefit standpoint.

Not that it's 100% applicable, but the lethal shop car gained 15 rwhp, 9 rwftlb, 2 tents and 2 mph when they added kooks long tubes to a mustang 5.0.

Also, we know that the torque demand table limits the f-150 hp to 395 but lets the mustang make up to 507. Some tunes are picking up as much as 50 rwhp on the 5.0 which is astounding for an na engine.

From what I've read on forums for 18 years, the mod motor/OHC V8 does not respond to shorty headers unless of course you're going with a turbo. Long tubes are the way to go for hp/tq gains.

No. Professional tuning with dyno testing is the way to go.

I'll rephrase - from an exhaust modification standpoint, long tubes are the way to go for hp/tq gains. Yes a tune does wonders!!!

Thanks for the all the replies! I would love long tubes, just don't know how hard it would be to get inspected in NY. If the stockers flow as good as shorties, i'll pass...
