2018 F150 5.0L - Excessive Oil Consumption ***TSB-2058***
#261
Well, my Ford dealer ordered me a new long block today. They're backordered for 10 - 12 days. The truck used a little over a quart of oil in 900 miles. Mine will be the first one done at this dealership so I'm a little apprehensive. They do remove the cab to do it. I guess whatever happens the warranty will take care of. Overall, I'm thrilled with the way Ford is handling this. 1 quart in 3000 miles is very generous. It makes me more likely to buy another Ford, not less. When it's all over my truck with 20,000 miles on it will have an engine with 0 miles.

The good news sounds like Ford is stepping to the plate with these excessive oil consumption engines. That's a good thing for owners with this issue and hopefully a new engine is going to resolve the problem. I wouldn't be so understanding about my new truck that soon required a new engine! Obviously options for owners with these oil consuming engines is rather limited so you take what Ford is offering to fix the problem.
I'm still interested in what Ford says caused these engines to fail with so few miles? Do they tell the owners anything other then their engine needs to replaced? Love to know how wide spread the problem is with these 5.0 engines?

I asked at the dealership today, and neither the Service Manager or the tech knew the source of the problem. I was thinking about it today and I suspect it has something to do with the heads because if it didn't they would give you a short block.

l sure will when I get time. But for some more info on the subject. My dealer told me he currently has 3 18’s and a 19 that they are running through the test. Oh and also a Shelby Mustang that is consuming a quart every 400 miles. I think we are going to see a lot of this. I also had a extensive conversation with the service manager and the tech who will be replacing my engine. Guys they DO NOT have to pull the cab to install the engine. That is a matter of tech preference and my tech said he does not like to do that so that will not be done.

In fords past like the 03 Cobra's etc. If the head was the issue only the head was replaced.

My build date was 9/2017 (Kansas City plant) and the truck has just under 20,000 miles on it. I have NONE of the engine noise problems others have mentioned, in fact it's the sweetest sounding engine I ever heard. I'm hoping the new one is too.

stumbled upon this; my truck was built 10/27/17 in Dearborn - will start checking levels and report back
Have about 11,500 miles and changed the oil twice so far; once at 3500 miles (like changing it out early with new cars) and once more at 9800 miles - haven't noticed anything odd thus far
In addition, I am running a JLT oil separator so oil vapors don't go back into the intake - this actually works and has had considerable amount of oil in the catch can at both oil changes (check my build thread for pictures) --> this takes some oil out but definitely not quarts or even a quart

VA Fordman, the marks on the back of your dip stick, is that the low or high mark?
The dealership that is servicing my truck marked the dip stick with paint, the low mark has since come off after 600km. I asked for an explanation & the mechanic said to use the manufacturers high & low marks.
Can some of you please share pic's of how your dip stick has been marked?
