2018 F-150 V8 5.0 Engine loud knock
#11
EXACTLY! With something like that, and well within warranty, it's honestly not worth it to waste your time with a dealer. It honestly doesn't sound like a problem yet, so the best course of action is to keep using the truck. if there's something wrong, it'll get worse over time, to the point you'll either get a code, or be so loud that any dealer can't deny there's something seriously wrong with the engine. That engine can be driven across the country without any issue. It's on the loud side, but within normal, IMO. I don't know about the service history of this engine, but I'd definitely change the oil at 5K intervals, which is exactly what I plan to do with my turbo engine. Good luck man.

Sounds like my 2013 5.0. ended up getting the long block replaced under warranty only to have the new 5.0 sound almost identical. Originally dropped it off May 29th and it's still there waiting on ANOTHER motor.

Let us know what the next dealership says OP.
May have been mentioned but it would probably be a good idea to open a case with Ford corporate.

I had my new truck (less than 2,000 km's) in for a variety of noises (off-throttle rattle, whistle/whine, pre-shift rattle and a knock), the dealer wasn't initially able to diagnose anything and reached out to Ford for direction. Ford suggested using an engine stethoscope to narrow it down. After a second trip to the dealer they were able to identify that one of the cylinders wasn't performing properly (no specific cause was given) and they checked the oil filter and found some metal present.......end result is they are replacing my engine in the next few weeks. Not sure if this is helpful to you, but maybe you could suggest they try the engine stethoscope and/or check the oil for metal debris.

It's amazing how many 5.0's knock like this...and pathetic. I wish you the best in getting this fixed. It is a bad lash adjuster...I've got the same knock and was able to trace it to cylinder 3 and 4 on the exhaust valves. I checked oil pressure and graphed against RPM, it was clear the oil pressure control solenoid either was sticking or there were electrical problems causing the solenoid to open causing oil pressure to be lower than specifications. No, Ford has not fixed it. They continue to refuse and are being sued because of it. A faulty lash adjuster on these engines is only a symptom of another problem...and Ford will do whatever they can to say its normal. Unless you have a good dealership you can go to, expect that you will need to fight to get this fixed.
