Default 2018+ 5.0 Review...

So its been almost a year now since I replaced my previous truck with my new one...2018 F150 Lariat 5.0

There have been a few threads on the "issues" with the 2018+ 5.0 engines...including excessive engine knock, oil consumption, engine tick and of course the ever popular off throttle rattle.

Those threads have been dragged into the abyss...so I'm gonna start a new one in hopes that we hear from all 5.0 owners 2018 or newer...2019/2020 etc and not have it veer off course.
I was (and am still a little) vocal over my displeasure with my new 5.0
My truck still has the off throttle rattle, and it has its moments when there's a tick/knock but not regularly.

I will say that my 5.0 gets phenomenal fuel mileage...an easy consistent 24mpg highway on a fairly regular basis!

So as a review...how's your 2018 or newer 5.0?

Please share your experiences...good-bad or otherwise.

Has the off-throttle rattle caused any defects or failures on anyone's truck?

- Off Throttle Rattle
- No Oil Consumption
- Transmission gets confused at times but rarely after Oz Omega Tune
- Sounds Amazing especially with Borla Type S
- Amazing Throttle Response in Sport Mode / Lethargic Throttle Response in Normal Mode
- Great Fuel Mileage compared to my 2004 5.4

Mine is one year old this month as well and has the off throttle rattle and uses about a quart of oil between changes. Other than that it runs smoothly (37k miles in 1 year) great fuel economy and never fails to start and go which is a must for me. My 16 5.0 was quieter but the new engine and 10 speed makes for an impressive powetrain. Tows much easier (I have had my trailer attached for the last week) I can hardly tell there is anything there when I tow my utility trailer with light to medium load.. And with my Borla Touring the sound is awesome!

I bought a brand new ‘18 5.0 about 4 months ago. The dealer had a handful left over and was getting rid of them at a deep discount and my ‘05 Tundra had just died so I just went for it. So far I’ve put about 13,000 miles on it and it’s been great. There was an issue with a PCM relay when it had 400 miles but it was an easy fix at the dealer. I’ve been checking the dipstick every few thousand miles and have not had any problems with oil consumption. Just checked it a few minutes ago and the oil level was right at the line that’s between the two holes on the dipstick. I know a lot of people on this forum have had issues with this engine but I love it. Best $25k I’ve ever spent. When I first bought it I babied it for about 1,000 miles then after that drove in sport mode for a while and floored it every once in a while because I heard some people say that they thought the oil issue was from people babying the engine and not properly seating the seals during break in. I drive about 45k miles per year and haul heavy equipment 2-3 times per week for work and the 5.0 has done a great job for me so far.

SBW, that's a 6'5 ft bed on your Crew cab?

My 5.0 is fine except for using a qt every 2k miles and occasional clunky shifts. No noises.

Had mine 2018 for a year no oil consumption or off throttle rattle . Trans does clunk occasionally on a warm start up. So far happy with it overall.

Yep! I use up the whole bed for work pretty often so I didn’t even bother looking at the short bed. A quart every 2k seems like a lot, seems like that’s enough to qualify you for a new engine, right? I thought a quart every 3k was the minimum

Thats a lot of oil consumption.

I had the trans tsb done. It was good at first but it seems that after some time, its clunky again.

Had mine for 9 months..got 11000 miles on mine now..I have the cold rattle and a engine knock. No oil consumption problems. the trans is a little clunky when cold but once warm shift pretty smooth. Forgot. Did have the chain tensioner tsb done for the chirp...all in all this truck has great power and runs unbelievable.. if it wasn’t for the engine knock this would be the best F-150 I’ve owned. Preveus trucks 2011 and a 2015 both with 5.0 engines.
