Default 2017 need help

Hello everyone. I am sorry to beat this topic to death. I am one of the many people with the APIM problem going out in the truck and it is getting worse by the day. I have had problems with it dropping Bluetooth and decided to check the update for sync. And it has not been done since 17' I go ahead and update and now it is just sucks to be honest. It all relates to the APIM from what I have read. Take the truck to a reliable mechanic- $1,000 to replace. Take the truck to local Ford dealership- $1,300. My question to the forum is, where are most of the individuals going to have them replaced? The truck is out of warranty by the mileage so that's out of the question. Are the APIM's from ebay worth it? I would take any feedback. Thanks

You'll want to consult some of the APIM gurus like @Airborne_Ape and @Livnitup .

The most cost effective solution would be to pull any working Sync 3 APIM from any junk yard from any Ford. Stuff it in your truck then get someone like @DanMc85 to program it over remote desktop, which is a service he has performed for many other users here already.

It is usually more cost effective to pull them out of Focus or Escape and then program it for your model and trim. Depending on how much you are willing to do yourself $200 to $800 USD would be my conservative estimate. eBay is eBay so you’re on your own if you go that route.

Honestly, I think $1,000 is a fair price if you’re paying someone else to do the whole thing. That said I’ve done it myself for less than $200 but it took 3 months to get everything I needed.

Before jumping in the deep end, I would redo the grounds on the APIM and ACM and see of that solves anything.

Also, I think after 2018 or 2019 Ford used the Same APIM for the 4" screen as they did for Sync 3, so an even cheaper option could be to source an APIM from behind the 4" display of a very modern Sync assembly and then program it as required.

Ebay is where I got my APIM. I've had no problems with it and I'm now running version 3.4 non-nav. I'd avoid the ones where they offer to program them for you. Buy one and program it yourself so you know what's being done to it.

thanks for your info. I don't mind installing the APIM. I would like the plug and play version. I hate going to a dealership and paying an arm and a leg for it. I will go check out some junkyards also.
