I think I will try to borrow a different Android phone before I buy another cord since I have already spent $30 on cords trying to figure this crap out 😂
My phone is a 3 year old model running Android 9.0 - I'm thinking that maybe the "refurb" replacement I got may not be quite as good as new...
I will let you know if/when I am able to get my hands on another phone - think I'm getting it narrowed down.
Tested a new Samsung A20 of a friends with my primary cord - before it my phone didn't work and after I unplugged his phone I replugged my phone and it still didn't work. His phone recognized right away on that same cord.
It appears the issue is my phone, but it feels like a trap, as it is so sporadic. I have 900 miles left on my 36K warranty, I guess I need to try and buy a phone before that warranty ends to be sure.
I concur with what others have said, AA on these trucks seems to be rather dependent on the phone and/or the USB cable. I'm half tempted to include software/firmware gripes here but I feel like the biggest issues are phone/cable related.
I use a Pixel 2XL and have gone through three USB cables in the last year. Part of my challenge is that I run the cable through the cup holders and plug it into the bottom of the phone which is placed on top of the cup holders. That places a reasonably tight 180 degree bend on the cable. I've even gone so far as trying to use coiled USB cables to see if they can deal better with that bend but, so far, I'm having issues finding reliable coiled cables.
Thought I had it almost figured out. Spent some time when I got off work today and muddied the water.
3 phones. 2 Android, 1 Apple. No success. Not one of them would work even upon multiple restarts. I did notice on the iPhone that it is disconnecting and reconnecting charge about every 3 seconds when plugged in to the car. I don't see that on the Android phones, but that is a new symptom.
My phone may be a contributing factor, but it is obviously not the only problem.
Taking it to the dealer in Tuesday. I feel like it's something with the USB ports/power source. Frustrating.

Yea sounds like USB. iPhone doesn't have any type of quick charge does it? If the APIM and phone were negotiating the charge rate I'd say maybe APIM but I think the iPhone is plain-jane.
I read the iPhone started to have fast charger on iPhone 8. I think the one I tested was a 7, but not sure. But seeing that the APIM is new, I still think USB is the likely culprit. Although, I supposed it's possible that I got a bad unit from the factory.
I wonder if turning quick charging off on my phone would help... Might be worth a shot.
The problem is not the truck it's the phone. I've said on other posts that Samsung's skin on top of the Android OS is very intrusive and full of bloat, think Bixby instead of the excellent Google Assistant. I had problems with my Samsung but when I tried my Bro-N-Law's LG the truck had no problems and AA worked fine. iPhones and phones that run pure or lightly modified Android have no problems.
