Default 2017 5.0

Is there any major issues with the 2017 Ford f150's 5.0? I have a 13' and looking at trading it in for a 2017.

The 5.0 up to 2017 (including) is probably the most accomplished and reliable design Ford could have put in an truck engine (my opinion).

Good old iron sleeves, good port injectors, non start/stop at technology, etc Those are jjust few examples of elements keeping away new problems largely seen in 2018 5.0 (oil usage, rough idle, rattles, etc).

It’s a safe bet.

Hi have 2016 5.0 and it is flawless.

I traded my 13 5.0 for a 17 5.0 and have zero regrets. I actually looked at a couple of 18s but after reading about some of the issues that 18 5.0 owners are having, I'm so glad I ended up with my 17. The only potentially significant issue I would watch (actually listen) for is the knock that some 5.0 owners seem to experience. There are countless threads on the knock so I won't bother expanding on it here but there's a lot of different opinions about what causes it, whether or not it's normal, and whether or not it's detrimental to the engine. My 13 had the knock. It was a very distinctive low end knock that was not present at cold start but would begin about 5 minutes into warm up when idling. It also had 175K on it and ran like a champ. Despite the knock, I wasn't afraid of the truck and if not for getting such a deal in my 17, I would still have it. I think the knock was more prevalent in earlier models but I'm pretty sure I remember seeing a post from an 18 5.0 owner within the last week or so with a video of his 5.0 knock and it sounded identical to my 13. Thankfully, my 17 is quiet as a mouse with no hint of the knock. I'd start the truck from cold and hang around it for 10 minutes as it warms up at idle. Listen in the front fenderwells. If it has the knock, you'll hear it. If it doesn't, buy it.

**EDIT**
Here's the video of the knocking 18 5.0 that I referenced. I forgot but there's actually a video of a "normal", non-knocking 5.0 and also a video of the OP's knocking 5.0 in the very first post. Listening to these, the knock is very easy to discern. I would give them a listen so that you know what to listen for on the 17.

My 13 has a clicking sound to it right now. I have had to replace the locking hubs three times , just fixed a coolant leak, and having issues with my radio.

Watch out for the freezing/malfunctioning door latches on the 15+ models. I see you live in Ohio.

You've been warned.

You will not be able to mistake the knock. It is not a tick in the slightest. I also had to fix the coolant leak on my 13. Not sure if Ford improved the design of the connections on the newer trucks to prevent that or not.

I'm not saying the trucks are bulletproof but like Nicklaus, I feel like the 15-17 5.0 is the most reliable and least likely to give major problems of any of these trucks since the 5.0 and 3.5 Eco was first introduced.

Good point. I was thinking more along with lines of drivetrain issues since the OP specifically asked about the 5.0. I live in NC and also keep the truck garaged so I haven't had to deal with this.

I have a 2017 with the 5.0. No engine knocks or oil consumption problems.

I had problems sticking shut during cold weather, not sure if it was from my bed cover freezing to the tailgate. I don't have a knock just the ticking noise. I have 73k miles on it.
