2017 3.5 EB Startup Noise
#31
2017 3.5L Eco
My truck has 26k on it. For last few months I was getting cold start "Diesel" rattle. After 2 trips to the dealer they got Ford to approve timing chain and cam phaser replacement. The cruddy part is the parts. They have had my truck over a month now. Luckily im in a loaner car, but it still sucks. Just hope my issue gets fixed. I like my truck but now kicking myself for switch from Tundra to F150.. link to my youtube post. https://youtu.be/15l14tejJFg

JM219 - I switched from a 2014 Tundra also.......
Currently mine is not making the noise, I think it is somehow related to whether or not the a/c compressor is engaged.... for defrost or A/C

I bet you it's your 10 speed transmission. I thought for sure it was my timing chains until I started it up a bunch right from the front. Starts up fine. Stand next to the driver door and you can hear it rattling. For sure the trans. I mean I also have a the decel rattle and the warm idle knock on the passenger side which is the VCT solenoids. At 58.5k miles so I'm not even gonna mess with the dealer.

They replaced the transmission pump @ 9,000 miles, it currently has 10,500. That seemed to help but every once in a great while I'll still hear a rattle standing at the front wheel on the drivers side

2017 F150 Startup Rattle
I see a lot of discussion about the known 3.5 EB startup timing chain rattle going back to the beginning, but I haven't seen much discussion about the rattle on 2017s with the refreshed motor. Does anyone have information about whether the issue should have been addressed with the updated motor? Our '17 (had it about 3 weeks) has a pretty wicked cold startup rattle, and it seems to have gotten worse over the past week. The weather here has been pretty temperate; it makes a lot of noise for about 4-5 seconds after sitting for the night when the weather has been about 50 degrees.
Is this typical?

3.5 ecoboost “diesel” rattle
Did the timing chain and cam phasers fix your problem? I have the same rattle “FORD” says it’s normal

Ford f 150 eccoboost 3.5l v6
Mine has it. It's a recent development, not there the first 10000 miles. It's not the wastegate. Every morning no matter how long I let it warm up. It lasts a couple miles into my commute. It's definitely coming from the front of the engine. It's also not the 10 speed rattle as that only lasts a few seconds. Occasionally I have a plastic burning smell. Now I'm getting a slight morning hesitation. Late 2017 build.
It's the cam phasers they need to be changed and it fixes it permanently, also I have a vacuum pump problem with brakes and for will do nothing about and it was at dealership within warranty and nothing done.

1 yr old, 29,000 km
rattle sounds like a cold start diesel.
dealership said it was thick dirty oil ?....which they changed 5k km ago.
they had truck 2 days and said its fixed, new thinner oil
next morning...same noise, sounds like the rods are going to punch through.
