2016 vs. 2017
It also sends you hatemail if you have weird habits like setting the parking brake before putting it in Park. Not that I do anything like that...
I would've bought a '16 if I had found one just so, but since I keep vehicles a long time I wanted to get just what I wanted. If you're more normal than I am, a great deal on a '16 might be the way to go, money-wise. While the 10-speed and Gen2 Ecoboost are advancements, it's not like the '16 is obsolete or anything.
If I were buying a '16 I'd make them include the updated USB connectors in the deal, just in case I buy an iPhone someday. (I'm an Android guy so all I'd actually NEED is the software update for Android Auto.)

Not to hijack, but what is wrong with doing this. Ever since I've owned my truck, when I go to park, I put my truck in neutral, set the brake, and then put the truck in Park. Where am I going wrong?
IMHO you're doing it exactly correctly, that's what I always did in the '07 Lariat (my cars have always had manual transmissions, so that's a different sequence.) I wanted the truck to settle against the parking brake before I put it in Park. But if I do that now, I get a warning that the parking brake is on when I shift through R, and get poorly-phrase messages in FordPass about it saying "Brake Warning" for the subject and "The Brake system has detected a fault." It's frankly not a fault, and I don't think it should send me messages about it unless I try to move the truck with the brake set, but it is what it is.
FWIW, I just purchased a 2017 Lariat FX4 (502A). I spent the previous day driving 2016's. I was initially concerned about the "newness" of the 10spd and whether the trans would be seeking gears all the time.
I can say, unequivocally, that the 2017 with the 10spd is smoother than the 2016 with the 6spd.
the other differences are noted above - concur with previous posters that for a small difference (2-3k) it's worth the newer truck.

With Sync Connect you can locate the truck, lock/unlock the doors, and start the engine even if you're out of range of the key.

That is NOT true at all. Sync 3 was in the 2016s and has nothing to do with the Sync Connect that GearheadGeek mentioned.
Also, just having a 2017 doesn't get you Sync Connect. It's a ~$200 option on 2017s, so if you want this feature make sure it is listed on the window sticker as an individual line item (or I think it is part of the 502A on the Lariat, but is an individual option on the 501A and anything below in Lariat/XLT/etc).
Edit:
In Build and Price, you will find the option way down in the options list right above (or below, don't recall exactly) the integrated trailer brake controller.
