The option settings is there when disconnected but otherwise AA only comes up once a phone is plugged in.

Thank for the kind words. Yes my dad is my hero! As for my buddys name. I really don't want to put the story online. Plus even if I did explain it to others it may not be as funny since it's a bunch of things that have happened over the years. Lol

Truthfully. I didn't even look at the instrument cluster. So as of right now I can't say. Next time I try AA I will look and let you know.

Not sure as of right now. My guess would be that it would be updated through wifi.

Thanks for the great write up and pics. I have iPhone but was glad to see one of the mobile platforms in deployed state. Very anxious to use maps and other features of CarPlay once it arrives. Ford said it would be here this summer, they are almost out of time!!!!!!!! :-)

I don't think they are talking about cellular data there, more like communication data from the android system on your phone to the remote display/touchpad you just connected it to over usb.

I think this may have already been mentioned but worth repeating IMO - AA will be supporting Waze in the coming future: http://www.androidpolice.com/2016/05...on-your-phone/

Also, it sounds like AA will also support Google offline maps, particularly helpful if you're going somewhere where you know you won't have cell coverage or if you are concerned about using too much data to load maps.

If we can believe the manual, then the updates can be performed via USB or WiFi. Either way no need for a trip to the dealer.

Except that a hardware upgrade is needed as well.

AFAIK, that is limited to CarPlay. Apple apparently needs special hardware for the USB.

For Apple Carplay, not Android Auto. The Apple Carplay update will probably come in the same update as Android Auto but it won't be enabled until the correct hardware(usb ports with the proper apple security chips?) are installed.

"Owners of 2016 model year Ford vehicles with SYNC 3 are required to perform a software upgrade and purchase a hardware upgrade to use Apple CarPlay."
