2016 & Remote Access
So your saying that vehicles with Sync 3 will be upgraded and the two modules would not be necessary? All you would need to do would be to subscribe to the service at $50 a year, correct or not?
The two parts needed to add the feature to F150s are no different, and the app is the same.
What is your source for this information? I know the article that speaks of 5 year Sync coverage but how do you know the 2 parts now for "Remote Access" will also function for the new Sync Connect App which shows vehicle info also?

EDIT: Looks like I was wrong. Someone clever enough may find a way to retrofit it though.
"Sync Connect will launch with the 2017 Ford Escape, which debuts this week at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show. It requires both Ford's latest infotainment system, Sync 3, as well as the aforementioned embedded modem, so it's not possible to retrofit the app to work with older vehicles. It will eventually make its way to Lincoln's products, as well."

If it is anything like Lexus' Enform phone app for my wife's 2016 RX 350, it blows.

I don't have the time to track it down, sorry. I could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time. I would hope there are two versions of this thing.

What is interesting from this article (below), is it reads as though the LTE modem is part of Sync3 which is already shipped with some 2016 F150's. So now I'm wondering if the modem is already there, just waiting for the CarPlay update before it enables. It is interesting that in searching for the Remote App parts, they're usually listed as for 2011-2014 F150's, but of course work on later models due to them just hooking into the message bus (cam something or other I think its called)...

Ignore me I just re-read your post. Sounds like getting the existing 2 remote access parts is the way to go, even if you have Sync3. Of the newer remote app features, only the remote start functionality is really of interest to me anyway. As long as they continue to support the existing app, which I assume they will.
