2016 Regular Cab with 101A vs 300A
Hi all - this is my first post here! I'm in the market for a new, fairly basic truck. Right now, I'm trying to decide between the XL and XLT models.
If I get a regular cab xl with the 2.7L ecoboost, 101A package, chrome appearance package, and carpet, msrp comes out to $30,255. If I get a regular cab xlt with the 2.7L ecoboost, msrp comes out to $33,895.
Are there any differences between these two? The only one I can find is how the xl has the black grill, while the xlt has the chrome grill. I feel like the equipped xl is pretty comparable, though.
Any help would be appreciated! I might hold out until the 2017 comes out, though I predict there's gonna be a similar situation haha!

I briefly looked at it, but unless you want SYNC3, the XL is the way to go from what I experienced. The rebates on XLT didn't bring the price lower than the XL for me. I have SYNC3 in my Mustang, and didn't really want to pay more for my truck so I opted for the XL.

Boy, that is a TOUGH one. It seems to me there are very few XLs on the road and/or sold, and many XLTs. I figure there *has* to be a reason for that? XLTs a better deal? Or people are able to haggle enough to get an XLT for an XL price? Resale value not as good on XLs?
For what it is worth, I have owned 3 XLTs. I now own an XL. My budget was tight, and I needed to save as much money as I could.
Having said all that, I find the "modern day XL" is basically yesterday's XLT:
My last XLT was an 11 4x4. It had sync. LOVED IT. But it didn't have a screen-just the basic sync system.
My new XL has all the power goodies (101A) and sync WITH a screen. Now my XL didn't come with the side step bars (I'm only 5'8" so I use them) so I added them later. New those things are expensive from Ford (I got new take offs). So one could argue that by the time you add some goodies your already in XLT pricing territory.
All in all, really you are going to be the only one to be able to answer that question I think-Does the XLs have all the features your looking for, and if not, by the time you add those extra features are you in XLT pricing territory?

IMO the XLT has nothing to offer beside the 8'' screen (if you get that option) that pushed me to it verses the XL.

Makes sense. In my case though, I'm not sure I got the best deal on what I wanted:
When I went to buy, I basically internet shopped for the cheapest truck with trailer tow package and a back seat in a 200 mile radius. That landed me on the truck I now own. It had almost everything I wanted, but did lack a few things. Since purchase, I have added:
OEM Drop-in Liner
OEM Step Bars
Aftermarket Backup camera
I have added a few other things as well, but those three things above I *THINK* would have came with an XLT. By the time I add up the cost of adding those items I believe I was flirting with XLT pricing anyway.
On the flip side of my argument, I got a few extra's I didn't even think about or really care about at the time (but glad I have them NOW): 2.7 Payload package & 3:73 e-locker.

Looks like it's time to start visiting some dealerships and deciding if I want to jump on these 2016 rebates or wait for the 2017

Prior to my recent purchase, I had been a regular cab XL guy (both a 2009 F150 and 2012 F250). One thing that became important to me over the years is satellite radio. Neither reg cab came equipped with that but they both had aux input jacks for adding aftermarket Sirius. When web shopping for my new truck, I looked at both XL and XLT Screws. I couldn't tell if 2016 XL's with 101A came with an aux input jack or not (I know the 100a base does not have it), but as per Ford info a base 300a does come with an aux input jack. Just one of many considerations....
XL's are great in my view. When buying a new one, downside is (as other posters have noted) they don't garner as much incentive/rebate action as XLT's with 301a or 302a.

Wow! Thanks all for the replies! So it looks like if I'm happy with the features available on the XL, that's the way to go. The price difference for the XLT must be a premium paid in order to get access to even more features, like the 301A package which I don't need.

I'm not exactly a technology early adapter (my kids can verify that...); if you want to add sat radio (like a best Buy Sirius receiver with car kit), can you do it via usb port or do you need an aux input jack? I've always assumed I'd need the aux port...
