What gets neglected that's more important than the window track is the window regulator. It uses wire cables running through cable housings that needs to be lubed periodically to maintain like new operation. Resistance in the window regulator leads to motor failure.

Ah yes. I think I saw somewhere else someone referring to a regulator. Wonder why they call it that. Isn’t it a little servo motor?

Interesting. That makes sense. I’ll add that to my lengthy list of maintenance items. I feel like once or twice a year I should just dunk the whole truck in a pool of lube.

The regulator sits between the motor and glass, using the motor's power to slide the window up and down. The motor is not a servo, it's just a 'dumb' bi-directional motor. Vehicles use circuit current to determine when a window is obstructed or closed rather than positional information.

I had all four of the windows on my 2004 F150 propped up with 2x4s.

Just a quick thanks to everyone who helped here. I ordered the new drivers switch mechanism ($170 *Canadian..ouch thanks Ford). But it all works perfectly now. Easy install.

I haven’t opened up the door to do the lube but that’s next.

Then to start talking moonroof jams😬

Yesterday I'd ordered a new window regulator and motor for my 2001 Lariat. This morning I decided to come here and do some research...glad I did! I was able to cancel the order and will try the track lubing when I get home - sounds like that might be my issue.

Thanks for the info you folks share!
