Default 2016 King Ranch - replace windshield questions

Hey gang! I own a fully optioned 2016 King Ranch from new. On a run down I-95 through VA quite awhile back, I got two pock marks in my windshield, coutesy of a tractor-trailer. I've lived with it for a year or 2 but now it cracked, almost all the way across.

Finally, yesterday I stopped by the local Safelite shop to inquire about having it replaced. I made sure to mention that it has acoustic glass, auto wipers, lane assist and all that. I also menioned that I want Ford glass. So they said I had to go through my carrier, Progressive, first. So I go thru the procedure on line. Suspiciously, no mention of it even being a King Ranch, or acoustic glass. I held the claim and asked that they call me.

So, anyone here have to deal with a new windshield? Any caviats I need to be aware of? Tips? Hints?

Thanks in advance!!!

I'm on my fourth windshield. I've paid for them all. Around here it is cheaper to replace a winshield a year than to get it covered by insurance. None have been Ford glass. I've never had a problem with the rain sensing wipers, the lane keeping (although I rarely use that), or auto-highbeam.

When I had the windshield replaced on my Lariat by SAFELIGHT their office person listed the part number and went down the list of 'features' it had and asked me to confirm. I too never put windshield replacement against my insurance...a claim is a claim is a claim, don't let anyone ever tell you any differently.

I recently replaced the WS in my 2015 F150, went to Safelight, and they gave me a price that was out of line with what I could get locally. They wanted to charge me a "Broken windshield disposal fee" And install Chicom glass. I got it replaced at a local glass store and saved almost $100. The local glass store used US made Pilkenton glass, which is just as good as the Ford glass

Pilkington is GM's and many other's OEM, as Carlite is Ford's. Both are pretty much equal. I prefer to stick with one of those

I just replaced my 2019 Lariat windshield with OEM carlite glass with a local service. $684 cash out of my pocket and didn't get the recalibration for $250. The installer said he didn't move the camera and I can't tell any difference except it's nice to look through a clear windshield without the sandblast effects especially in bright sun.

I would find a reputable auto glass shop and have then do it with a recommended OEM glass. I wouldn't trust Safelite with a three dollar bill when their franchises charge a disposal fee.

I think you can get Gorilla glass now as well. I also would not use Safelite.

I think Ford only has one windshield part # for all models regardless of options.

Thanks for the replies thus far! I'm looking to see who else is available besides Safelight, and what the job will cost me if I go without putting the claim through.

Pic of truck for attention. Delivery day, April 15, 2016. Built on April Fools Day.
