Default 2016 FX4 Shocks

I see a lot of people posting about changing their rear shocks to the Bilstein 5100 because the stock are crap. Does this include the 4wd FX4 package shocks. It says they are different shocks than standard pickup (off road tuned shocks)

Yep. Change 'em.

They're not total crap. They really aren't. But the Bilsteins are better, and worth the few hundred bucks to me (and others).

HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of F150's use the stock shocks and are never changed.

I have a 2016 FX4. The first time I got to a bridge with an expansion joint my wife asked why the rear end jumped out to the side so much. A few days later I hit interstate that was wavy and found it difficult to keep the truck straight for all the hopping at 70MPH. Ordered the Bilstein 5100's for the rear that night and have never questioned my decision.

I have a 2015 Lariat FX4 and changed the rears at 100k. Like the other gent suggested i am glad i changed them. Originals were not leaking but not responsive like the Bilstein. Like the gas was almost gone in the original and the oil was heavy. The ride is more compliant today. Fronts are next. Easy to do the rears and less than 30 minutes. Go for it!

Ok I haven't had any problems but after reading the comments I went ahead and ordered the shocks.

my '16 FX4 shocks were fine, actually great, for about 20k miles. Then I started getting a little side-hop. As it slowly got worse I went ahead and ordered rear B5100s. For $140, they got rid of the hop. It may be a little stiffer than stock, but I like a firmer ride.

I had the hop and crap ride since 1 with 5 miles on the odo, threw them out a month ago for the 5100s and so glad I did. Ride is firm, controlled, much more stable.

I tore mine off the first month of ownership and put BOSS (formerly F150 Lifts) shocks on. Managed to sell the stock shocks for $50.

I just did my rear 5100's today. I will echo what others have said - after a 20 mi test ride on everything from 4 lane to a twisty chip and seal country road. NOTICEABLE difference over stock. Not as much hopping around in the back. Feels much more in control. Worth every penny! Note: I only have 500 mi on the new truck. Still....worth every penny.
