Just finished my third trip into the dealership for the same problem on my 17 Screw. First trip they said it was the Parking Brake Actuators, second trip they said it was a flex line that was collapsed, third trip I asked to see the shop foreman and explained what was going on, he instantly said it sounded like the cables freezing up. All new cables and now it is a wait and see if it is finally fixed.

Just got my truck back from the 3rd visit where they "disassembled and lubed" all parts of the parking brake. Go to back out of the driveway this morning at 18°F and same thing happens. I'm just about ready to lose my mind with this dealership. When I dropped it off last time I mentioned the frozen cable at least one of you mentioned, and they gave me the good ole "yeah, we'll look into that for you" routine. I guarantee the service writer didn't enjoy my 7:30am phone call this morning. Now they "need to get with Ford to see what they think is going on". I'm about ready to take the truck to my mechanic and just pay to get the damn thing fixed correctly.

I think this is why people typically don't use the E-brake in the winter because of the possibility that it hangs up.

So mine stuck a bit again this morning. I took a look under for the ice on the cable and there was nothing. One thing I noted was the amount of snow and ice around the calipers. I am now starting to think maybe the slush and snow is getting forced into the emergency brake and actually freezing the mechanism in place after sitting all night.

Thinking back, mine has only stuck on after driving in bad weather the night before. Anyone else noticed what the weather was like the day before parking?

I have to agree with some of the others. Never use parking / e-brake unless absolutely necessary. When I was a young man parking brake froze up and it took a lot of push pull action to finally break it free. Never used it in winter since and never had problems since.

I work as a tech at the local Ford dealer, had to replace my cables for moisture/freezing. Only 16000kms on mine. Needless to say the new ones were soaked in crown rustproofing before installation.

Dropped the truck back off last Friday(visit 4 now) and they finally agreed that the cable(s) are freezing up. They have been nice enough to put me in a rental the past two times which I appreciate. Somehow it takes them 5 days to get the cable, and I scored a 2017 Expedition Limited as my rental, so my complaints are not as loud as they had been at the dealership.

Same thing happened to me and I NEVER use that damn thing unless it's absolutely. In cold freezing temps with moisture it's just waiting to freeze up and become a total PITA..........

Mine goes into PARK and if it roll downhills I'll be calling my insurance company...

My driveway is not flat and I have used the parking brake in every car i've owned since i moved into this house. Only vehicle I've ever had an issue with is the F150.

Same thing here. Steep drive, use parking brake daily, locks up every time temp drops below freezing. Only vehicle to ever have problems.
