Right you are. However, my original engine is now gone and I did't get the date before it was removed. Most likely early/mid May 2016.

New engine was manufactured in December 2016.

Had the truck back for a week. As is probably very common after such a major repair I have been listening very closely and monitoring all sounds, vibrations, and performance of the engine. The engine runs well so far and I will continue to 'break it in'. Mainly no towing, no lagging the engine, no redlining. Have been taking it through various rpm's and avoiding cruise control to keep the speed/rpm at a non constant level. Typically I lock out 5 & 6 around town.

Couple of things I have noticed:

- There are some vibrations I feel in the gas pedal and an increased vibration in the gas pedal at shift points, not sure how much of that is normal.

- I hear a very slight knocking noise (knocking is not quite the right description really..more a bap bap bap bap...) at very low rpm's while in gear. Nothing like before. I wonder if it is a normal noise from a 5.0 engine. Would be interested to compare to a different 5.0.

- My main concern at this point is at about 1700 rpm I feel a larger vibration and a dull humming noise. It's almost like something on the truck reaches it natural resonance frequency at around 1700 rpm. This happens regardless of speed and specifically tied to about 1700 rpm. Playing with the throttle I can hold the exact the rpm and maintain the effect.

I will be taking it in to have this checked out, but in the mean time does anyone have any thoughts on what it may be?

Thanks.

Could be a bazillion things as I doubt outside any internal work, the tech or techs did not properly torque anything putting that back together as is quite common with flat rate warranty work.

Of course let them look at it but do not expect them to deep dive it or tear it apart again. Just way this type of work goes sometimes and nothing is every 100% the same as factory built in terms of noises and vibrations or lack thereof.

One of this things I am concerned with in this whole ordeal is my brand new truck will have lasting effects that are nearly impossible to fix. It will never get back to near new again....

Sure thing. Two years later and the replacement engine continues to run great. Have about 45,000 KM on the new engine. Lots of travel trailer towing too. Initially, the new engine was misfiring, but after replacing two injectors it has been good. Only oil changes. I can safely say that there are no 'side effects' of having the engine replaced.

Now if only the frozen door saga was resolved this quickly.....
