The actual build date of the engine can be found on the LH (Driver's side) valve cover. My 5.0L engine was built on 02/26/15.

Interesting. So even though they say I am getting a brand new engine (I did ask if it was remanufactured), you think there is a possibility that it will be a remanufactured engine?

I do know the engine is being shipped from Memphis, which is a long way from both Essex (location 5.0 is manufactured) and Dearborn (location F150 is assembled). That being said, is appears that Ford does have a distribution warehouse in Memphis.

I wonder if the info on the engine block will reflect when/when it was manufactured and/or re-manufactured.

The owners manual has a statement that remanufactured part may be used in performing warranty repairs.

Repairs will be
made using Ford or Motorcraft® parts, or
remanufactured or other parts that are
authorized by Ford.
So it is within the realm of possibility that a remanufactured engine may be used. FWIW, Ford's reman engine process is pretty good but it still takes the luster off of not having a new engine.

OP...If your Engine failed during the 5/60 warranty, than the Re-Man Engine would be acceptable....Being your Truck is less than a year old and has less than 5K on it, I would be pushing for a NEW replacement Engine with extended warranty.

Back in the early 80s, I bought a Fred Jones Re-Man 390 that I put in a 1972 F 100. It was a Long block and came with a 12,000 mile/12 Month Warranty good at any Ford Dealer. after about 60K, I gave the Truck to my Son, who drove it the last year of High School and 4 years of College........He put over 100K on it before he sold it to buy a new Mustang. That Engine was flawless.

What is the build date of your 5.0 ? Mine is 5-12-16.Thanks to tmcolegr for how to read it.

I am not the final all knowing source but in the past re-man parts supported warranty/service. There was no mileage gate that said undeR x miles you get new and after X reman. The fact that they are telling you it will be new may be true and you will get a brand new part or it may be that someone doesn't understand their own process. I wouldn't be too concerned with a reman engine but understand your disappointment and perception that it's somehow inferior. Best of luck

I agree that it may be a bit of 'perception' that a reman is inferior, but if you were at the dealer looking to buy a F150 and the salesperson presented two identical trucks with the only difference being truck A has a new engine and truck B has a reman which would you choose?

Ironically, in my case the reman may have been better......

Got the truck back today. Brand new production engine has been installed, not a reman . Running great so far.

Total down time was 16 days. Most of that was waiting for the engine to be delivered (had some weather delays).

All in all I am happy there is a new motor in the truck, still choked that a brand new vehicle would even have an issue like this.

Lessons learned:

1) If you have any type of knocking noise I highly recommend getting it checked out. Fortunately my service department handled the situation very well and got approval for a new motor right away.

2) Don't expect Ford to do anything above and beyond what they are legally obligated to under the warranty (such as extend warranty...). Even though this case was an engine, they treat any defective part the same way by repairing/replacing it.

3) If you have a F150 5.0 that was assembled on May 27, 2016 at the Dearborn production plant, be weary of the same issue in cylinder #5. The dealer I purchased this truck from has previously replaced a different 5.0 with the exact same issue. My truck and the previous truck were assembled the same day. My bet is there are others out there that have the exact same issue.

A 3.5L EcoBoost V-6 in a Ford GT took 1st place in it's class at the LeMans, and Daytona 24 hour endurance races! I would say these are BIG wins!!
