Default 2016 backup camera malfunction

Hello. The backup camera on my Lariat started malfunctioning intermittently. When I put it in reverse I sometimes get a very dark screen that obviously has the image in it, but it's not usable. It works normally after a little while.

It seems to happen more in the morning, maybe because it hasn't run for several hours. It didn't seem to be temperature dependent (my first thought) because it happened this AM when it was 70 degrees outside.

Where do I start troubleshooting? Connections at the camera? Behind the radio? Is the camera itself the likely problem?

Search my threads here I just posted about the same issue. I've had the image processor replaced twice. It didn't fix it. They replaced the camera last week and this fixed it.

Thanks. The image is somewhat different that what I see but I suspect it's the same thing. Another respondent to your thread described it "getting worse" which describes the image on my screen. It started that way. I'll post a pic if I have a chance to capture it.

Is a 2016 still under warranty for the camera? I bought mine in November.

Probably not. Mine was only under warranty because it was a CPO and I still had to pay a $100 deductible. That was probably me saying it got worse. It starts out as just a faded image, then completely black, then fuzzy, then blue until permanently blue.

Mine has done this since almost new. Ever time I took it in to the dealer it worked and could not duplicate. Out of warranty now so I just don't worry about it. Hasn't gotten worse. Usually happens once or twice a week.

Mine started doing this intermittently about a month ago. One time it won't work, then next time it will. I know if I take it the dealer, it will work and all I do is loose the truck for the day. After reading up on rear camera problems (this is the first I have seen someone having the same problem as mine) I suspect the camera is at fault. But that is just a guess. If you figure out a solution, please post it. Thanks.
