Exclamation 2016 2.7 Wont Start in Cold

First off, this is my first post but have been lurking for over a year getting a gauge for the new F150s. I've learned a fair bit and ultimately bought a 2016 2.7 XL due to the year end clearances just before Christmas.

All was great for the first few days, but then I had the loose door rattle that a fair bit of people had. Had the striker adjusted and it helped for a week, but now has come back.

Now, as of yesterday, I went to remote start the truck first and it failed so I hopped in to leave work and all the lights came on but no attempt to start, no click or anything, just a strange whine noise. A message popped up saying "Charge system service now". After trying to start the truck ~20 times, it finally started, this time strongly, and without hesitation.
I drove home 70 miles with no issue. This morning, the same thing, remote start wouldn't work and had to manually turn the key a dozen times or more for it to start.
So before I left work today I brought out my DMM and measured ~12.3 volts on the battery with just the door open and the chime on. Once it finally started, I measured 14.9 volts, so it would seem both battery and alternator are fine.
I should note that if it only sits a couple hours, it starts first try with no issue... It's been single digit temperatures yesterday and today here in MN, when the troubles arose, so I'm not sure if temps are having an effect.

I brought the truck to the dealer tonight for both the door and starting issue, I will update when I find out more. Feel free to comment as it may help the dealer if they can't figure it out.

My guesses are either something was messed up when they installed the remote start (it's a ford one, but not from the factory), or the starter motor is bad and it takes a few attempts for it to finally crank.

I love the truck, and it's my first Ford or truck, but these 2 issues are very frustrating...

Lastly, Happy New year!

A minor update:
Dealer let it sit outside overnight - confirmed that the truck would not start using remote or turn key.
They wheeled it inside and let it sit in the warm shop for a few hours and it started first try.
Dealer called around and ultimately the Ford Engineering department who said it was a bad starter. Dealer didn't believe this to be true so they are keeping it outside for a couple more days to continue troubleshooting.

Kind of annoyed, truck was less than 2 weeks old...

I'll see what they say in the next day or two.

That's frustrating. My first thought was a sticking solenoid, which is often part of the starter, or perhaps a bad connection at the battery cable. Think they're on the right track with the starter.

At least it didn't start for them as well and now they know there is an issue because knowing is half the battle.

Remote start is no different no matter who installs it. PNP

I thought maybe a solenoid or relay that had moisture in it was causing the problem too, but I didn't know the solenoid could be IN the starter. Good to know.

I checked the cables at the battery and everything including battery clamps and the crimp terminals looked and felt solid, but after the battery, I'm not sure.

Rambo: yeah, I was glad it did it for them as well, but it happened 3 times in a row for me, so I was pretty confident it would happen again.

Another Update.... UGH.

In short, the weather has been very cold, sub zero even. And it has not encountered the starting issue anymore and the dealer cannot troubleshoot it when it is starting. I will probably try another dealer when the problem arises again.

On another note, when I went to go pick it up, it started really rough and as I drove it down the road, the engine light came on shortly after the rough running went away. When I got home a few minutes later, I hooked up my code scanner and it came up with cylinder #5 misfire. So I immediately took it back. I haven't had my truck for a week and a half now...

I had a new vehicle act like yours. Start fine for a little while then randomly refuse to start. Then run fine for a week or two then do it again. Dealers tested battery, alternator and starter. All passed on multiple occasions. After 6 months it finally stopped starting completely, dead battery. After it was replaced it never failed to start again.

My point is it may be something as simple as a battery with a defect.

Well, when I called the Ford dealership that does only trucks, the service writers over-the-phone diagnosis was an intermittent weak cell in the battery. So that makes sense with what you were having...
