2016 2.7 EB trans behavior ?
Hi, wondering if anyone experiences this, I have a 2016 F150 4x4 with the EB 2.7, FX4 package
As I come to a stop, if I don't completely stop, when I get back on the gas the transmission feels like it's out of gear then kicks into 1st. I feel it and there is an audible clunk sound. I called the dealer service dept, service guy said it's normal.
Service guy described the behavior as I'm coasting, which I am, and the trans is sort of disconnected, not quite neutral but close, and by not coming to a complete stop, when I get on the gas it has to kick back in. I've also noticed a rough shift in tow/haul mode yesterday, I'll be driving at 20 mph or less and if I let off the gas and coast, it will shift to 2nd, and it's rough.
I have 30k miles now, wondering if this is really normal and if it will last the 150k I want to drive this thing. Anyone else feel this with their truck?

Try this. Drive highway speed in sport mode. Then hit the brakes just hard enough like im gonna miss my turn but not emergency brake. Dont move your foot just hold steady. What does your three two shift do? Is it the same as all the others? Does it rev match or go bang hard shift?

It is NOT the slip yoke. That’s a completely different issue with different symptoms.
My uneducated guess is that it’s either the torque converter or transfer case. But regardless, I have no reason to believe any long-term damage will occur. I’ve just had to adapt my driving style to avoid the jerk/clunk.
Not just a Ford thing. Had an ‘06 Tundra and an ‘09 Tundra and they both had the slip yoke bump. Dealer would take apart and lube and it would last for a while then come back. Haven’t experienced it yet with my ‘17 F150.

You'll drive yourself mad trying to resolve something lots of these trucks do. Mine began doing this a couple thousand miles after breaking it in. Been to the dealer a few times, have removed the drive shaft myself and greased the hell out of it. Still does it.

Mine does exactly the same as you describe. I’ve also seen many threads on the same. Seems to be “normal”, especially on the 4x4 models (mine included). I took mine into the dealer a while back for it, they updated the PCM or whatever controls the tranny, and no improvement. Dealer said it’s normal.

Noticed something this morning and am curious what others think the reason is. I get this jerk/clunk especially while coasting on the highway. Almost every time I take my foot off the gas pedal and press it again I get this clunk, felt and heard. Today I decided to try this while the truck was in cruise control. Had it set at 60, would take the truck myself to 70 and kept pressing the gas pedal and taking my foot off. Not once did it do this clunk and was smooth. Is it because the torque converter stays engaged while in cruise control?
