I'm going through this now. My truck was built 8/30/16 and I have had the rough idle/slight miss for a couple of months now. I normally drive very conservative but this past weekend I got on the gas going up a hill just to let the truck let loose. While halfway up hill, I got a warning message for low oil pressure and my truck shut down. As soon as I let off of the gas, the truck went back to normal operation and I didn't have another hiccup. I just brushed it off as a fluke at first. Later that night, I was merging onto the interstate and had to step on it to get up to speed. While doing so, the same issue happened and I knew there was something seriously wrong. I got it home and did some research on here the next day and stumbled across this issue and TSB. I went out to my truck and checked my dipstick and it was low... 5 quarts low! My truck only has 5k miles on it so I am averaging a loss of 1 quart per 1,000 miles .

I put 5 quarts of Motorcraft 5W30 in the truck yesterday so that I could run it to get back and forth to work this week. I called the dealership first thing this morning and they can't get me in until next Monday. I guess I will keep an eye on my oil levels and try to document it the best I can. Part of me wishes I didn't put the oil in my truck just so I could show the service department that I am not exaggerating with my 5 quart claim. We will see what happens and I will keep this thread updated.

My only question is why or how do things that actually work end up being changed? I like change, but major drive-train components shouldn't be changed so much. Seems to be normal these days rush everything out the door and patch it later.

Does anyone else think it's strange that this TSB lists one quart of oil used under 3000 miles as being a symptom of a problem? I thought Ford's threshold for oil consumption problems was one quart per 1000 miles.

Anyway...I'll be honest, I've driven the 3.5 EB, 2.7 EB, and 5.0 and they all are rough at startup (after 3-5 minutes, that roughness goes away). I'm curious to hear what the cause is...even if the reason is different for all three.

My build date is 07-19-2016. I noticed after my last oil change I have excessive blue smoke on cold starts that last for 3-4 seconds. I have no visible oil leaks, everything is tight, and the oil level is checked weekly. I have not burned any oil, the level has stayed at the full mark. I just rolled over 18k miles last week.

Well, I am here to give an update on the verdict with my truck. Last Monday I took it in to get looked at and this was the first I have been able to get back on here so sorry for the delay.

Here is my replacement truck for roughly the next month:

They determined that my motor was shot and they have gone ahead and ordered the new one. I was given a rough time frame of around 3 weeks but it all depends on how long it takes for it to be shipped in. From there, they said the replacement is around a 20 hour job. Oh well, looks like I get to whip around in an Escape for the next month. Too bad I can't drop my payment down to what an Escape should be lol.

Any chance Ford will cover a month's worth of payment while the car is off the road, or something similar? I might be crazy, but I feel like I saw something like this referenced somewhere.

How many miles are on your truck?

A long block install book times at 24.0hrs of labor. Being so new I'm not sure what the protocol is. A new, re manufactured, or send yours out for a rebuild. 3 weeks suggests that there aren't any engines out there and that they are going to build yours. Regardless, I'm glad you're being taken care of.

Nothing in Ford's warranty language will cover this scenario. That being said, there "may" be instances of them doing a goodwill gesture but that seems to rare as hens teeth.

People should never confuse and tie in their bank note with warranty work, it is two different legal worlds.

Sure. On the surface it makes no sense because "monthly payment" means nothing really. Like I said, I thought I had read something similar occurring for someone else here, might be mistaken tho.

It will also be a month of putting miles on someone else's vehicle instead of your own. For some that could be significant.
