2015 Xlt 2.7 vs 2013 fx4 5.0
Down to these two in a 4wd supercrew......they are basically the same price. The fx4 is loaded with every option and 50k miles....xlt has 9k miles.
I really like the idea of bells and whistles but I can get the 15 and put clazzio/katskinz leather in it for under $1000.
What packages should I make sure the xlt have and will the 2.7 be under powered if I level it and put 33s on it?
I drive my truck only 10k per yr or so.....and tow a 4500# boat every now and then.
Like both trucks just trying to decide and need vs want type deal......thoughts?

2.7 has plenty of power to it. Unfortunately can't speak for towing or bigger tires.
As for larger tires/towing combined you would want to check axle gearing. payload/tow package would probably balance it out with bigger tires 3.73 gears. Mines 3.55 ideal balance plenty of power with or without load. I've loaded 800lbs in mine (xlt crewcab) and can't really tell the weight difference or lack of power.
I'd be surprised if larger tires slow the engine any if its geared 3.73, even 3.55 I wouldn't see being too bad. Might make it run more like a 13' model v8.
Only thing that made me skeptical of the 15' is the fact its an untested redesign. Some people have problems others don't. Mines late build which so far is perfect. Also don't know if it makes a difference, but the stop/start feature some people don't like. I leave mine on all the time and no problems with it yet. Just something to consider.
I would test drive both and look both over real good.

I would go for the older truck. My 2015 XLT has issues. This was my first truck purchase and I am not happy with it.
Lesson learned- I will do a more thorough test drive next time.
Positives
- mpg
- smooth ride on highway
- ample room in cabin
- appearance
- sporty performance
Cons
- ride on all other roads that aren't highways
- uncomfortable seating for longer drives
- bouncy rear end
- climate control issues

Save the Manuals!
I love my 2015 and have had zero issues with it but if there is a used 2015 sitting on the lot already I would be very careful. Its likely something that had a lot of issues and could even be a buy back. This may not show up on the car fax.

Lots of reasons why a 15 would be on the lot used, not all of them nefarious. I would get the newer one with the fewest miles. The 2.7L won't have any issues with what you want to do with it. It is a stout motor.

The ride is by FAR the best of any truck i've ever been in. Nearly everyone that rides in it mentions how quiet and smooth it is. My buddy called it an "S-Class Benz of trucks" and i wouldn't disagree. Much quieter and smoother over bumps than my other buddies 2012 FX4 5.0. Not even close there.
Climate Control: no issue here; mine heats up so much quicker than our 2015 suburban in the winter, and the AC is COLD.
I have a 2015 XLT 2.7. The power is there ALL the time and the truck is downright quick. Look on YouTube. The Fast Lane Truck guys tested all of the trucks, including Fords 5.0 and 3.5. If i remember correctly, the top two quickest trucks were the 2.7 and the Hemi 5.7. Regardless, its one of the quickest trucks on the road right now. I now have a 6" lift and 35's. It was not lacking for power after that, but i did go with a 5 Star Tune for the extra 40+hp and 70+tq. Keep in mind the new truck is aluminum and has ~500lbs less to drag around, plus the V6 is lighter than the V8. Gas mileage isn't close. You'll be around 4mpg better in the V6.

If I was making this call, I'd go with the 2015 XLT. You have about 4 extra years (50,000-9,000=41,000) of life on it and more value with the new body style.

Completely agree about the "Bouncy rear end". Ill suggest a simple rear shock upgrade. Fox 2.0s in the rear really help this issue.

I'm pretty sure I read that the 5.0 Coyote is actually lighter than the 3.5 EcoBoost when the weight of the turbos and intercooler are considered. Not sure how much lighter the 2.7 is compared with the 3.5.

They had the weights on a spec sheet at the dealership and the 5.0 was heaviest, then 3.5, then the newly designed 2.7 being the lightest (of course).
