Default 2015 Towing

So I have never posted in this blog before so please excuse any mistakes but I would like to join this discussion. I have a 2015 lariat with the 3.5 Ecoboost. I know I might get some flack for this but, my family and I love camping and my buddy gave me a 32-foot camper total wet weight is about 10,000 but for the sake of argument when I load it lets say its 9,000 with a tongue weight of about 1,000. Now according to everything I have read, I am over GVW but within towing weight for my truck. I have 2 kids a wife and 2 dogs and all our gear and assuming I have underestimated all of our weight lets just say I am either just at or overweight on everything. I have had this setup for about two years and camp 3 to 4 times a year going from Massachusetts to Maine and New Hampshire each time around 200 miles with highway and semi mountains driving each way. I am very pleased with the power and stopping the ability of the truck with the trailer brakes I have no problems at all that way. This issue is sway at 60MPH I have constant slight sway. I added helper springs and it helped a little. I have a very good weight distribution hitch with sway control so it's not bad but you know its there. One thing I recently discovered on this forum is my tires were all wrong as I only have the stock tires and I was disappointed to learn that they are only rated for passenger and not a Light truck so I will be fixing that hopefully that will fix the issue but I was thinking of adding airbags as well. Does anyone have an opinion on that? According to the tow guied, I am within the limits of my truck. https://www.ford.com/resources/ford/...0_r2_may19.pdf

10 ply tires might help with sway because of the stiffer sidewalls. Airbags will not directly have any effect on sway. But airbags may allow you to run more tongue weight without any squat. The added tongue weight should help with sway.

What’s the payload sticker on your door say? You might be close on payload or you might be way over. You say you have a good hitch. What kind?

What kind of trailer do you have?? WD hitch?? What are the specs on your truck such as axle ratio, cab/wheelbase? I too run over payload also, so you're not the only one. So I'm not the weight police. I have an 8940lb 2019 Grand Design Reflection 297rsts and its 34ft in total length. I have a Screw 6.5 bed 3.73 axle with the 5.0 engine. It pulls it great. I do have a Propride P3 WD hitch with no sway at all.

I also put LT275/6520 tires load range E and it has made a difference in stability while towing. With you traveling the distance you're traveling, you dont want those stock P rated tires to overheat. If you inflate them to max pressure you will be ok but I rather be safe than sorry. As long as you use common sense not to go too fast and not tailgate people and brake early which I'm sure you do, you'll be fine. I did also add airbags and a hellwig sway bar which does help with rear end stiffness. Any other questions feel free to ask.

Front and rear Hellwig swaybars will help.

If the trailer is loaded heavy behind the axles, it will cause sway.

You should not need helper springs or airbags with a properly set-up WD hitch. I assume you have inflated the P rated tries to their max inflation pressure on the sidewall. Like others have said, maybe another 100-200 lbs on the tongue and readjust the WD hitch. Then, if you still have sway, try LT tires.

In any case, you are probably over payload.

Thank you I have been banged up by the weight police before. Rather than help some people would just like to be critical. I don't have unlimited funds and I just want to make the best of what I have. My truck is a 2015 Lariat super crew with the max tow package 3.5 EcoBoost and 3.55 Axiel. So I am within the 11,500 max trailer tow weight that it says in the book although I am not 100% that the book is right I have heard Ford may have stretched the numbers. However, when you add it all up I am sure I am right at or just over GVW. Ford is clever not to make the numbers add up in any real way. I have a equalizer hitch and it is set so I don't have any squat. My first thought on that would be; do to the extreme length of the trailer and because I don't have any squat maybe I don't have enough tongue weight?

Do you have a "sway controller " like the link below ?
It made a huge difference for me.

No, but I have an Equal-i-zer that is supposed to be very good at sway control.

I like the idea of swaybars I will need to explore that a little more.
