Default 2015 Radar Dector Install

I bought this Escort Passport 9500ix because I already had one in my Mustang and have been very pleased with it. I have it permanent mounted and hardwired in the Mustang and wanted to do the same in the F150.

Amazon.com : Escort Passport 9500ix Radar/Laser Detector (Blue Display) : Car Electronics Amazon.com : Escort Passport 9500ix Radar/Laser Detector (Blue Display) : Car Electronics

I ordered a different mounting bracket than I used in the Mustang and it was cheaper...But it is of high quality and am very pleased with it.

Amazon.com : PerformancePackage Mirror Mount Radar Detector Bracket - Escort 9500ix, 8500x50, Solo S3, Redline : Car Electronics Amazon.com : PerformancePackage Mirror Mount Radar Detector Bracket - Escort 9500ix, 8500x50, Solo S3, Redline : Car Electronics

This is the Escort Smart cord used to hardwire the unit.

On the Mustang the little switch is mounted on the top of the steering column. The fuse panel is on the drivers side in the Mustang where it gets it's power.

Now the truck's fuse panel is in the pasanger kick panel and the cord is not really long enough, so I sent out to find a simpler way to do this.

This is what the end result looks like.

The switch is in the overhead but it's easier to reach for quick muting of the noise. Something I'd suggest you do, if Johhny Law is standing at your window.

I picked up keyed power from the rear window switch wired. Black w/ yellow tracer is GND..... Brown is Hot.

These were tapped with small T connector Scotchlocks. They have a female Spade connector in them. Then you install Male spades on the power wires for the remote switch. Note the POS wire has a Male spade on it already. The ring connector on the GND gets cut off and replaced with a male spade.

In the Mustang I have to turn the unit on and OFF all the time when leaving the car. This unit has onboard GPS and if it sits turned ON for 4hrs with no movement it will turn itself OFF.
But with the way the truck is wired. The unit comes ON when the motor is cranked [Key ON] and it shuts down when the motor is turned OFF [key OFF] and the door is opened. These vehicales have that delay after the key is turned OFF. Either it is timed and goes off or the door is opened and it goes OFF.

There is no need to reach up and turn the Escort ON or OFF. It all works thru the Ign power.

EDIT Notes: That overhead panel just pulls down with some force....Like most all vehicles now.

Here are better pix's of the bracket. It is fully adjustable and enables the radar dector to be tucked up tight. Made of 6061T6 alum and anidized mate black. [aircraft alum]

The inside of that panel has little tangs to tie the wiring up with small tye wraps. I didn't take pix's of all of it tied up, as it had started to rain and I wanted to get done.

Going to that other thread has a link for a "Blend Mount". That is what I used on my Mustang. It's a nice mount, but it's not $50 nicer than the one I used in my truck.

It's still a mount no matter the cost and is useful information that should be in one location so a user can see all options.

I'm not knocking anyone's post. I just know some other guys were looking for options in the link I posted to the other thread.

Here is my point. I spent the money before....This time I took a gamble with a cheaper cost mount. I was VERY satisfied with the cheaper $ mount. The quality did not suffer...Just a slight design difference and would buy it again, and or recommend it.

My thread is on a 2015...I put it in the 2015 catagory. The other is on a 2011. They tapped into dimming mirror....I tapped the rear window motor wires. There are a lot of differences and thus why the thread is dedicated to a 2015.

I have the 9500ix in my Infiniti G35. Quick question. You can mute it on the device itself. Isn't that easier to access than the mute button on the hardwire kit? On My G35 I have the mute to the right of where my knee is on the center section.

How do you get the overhead panel off to access the wiring?

Great write up! I'll be doing this when my truck gets here in a couple weeks.

It never has been to me...I always manage to hit the wrong button.

Sorry I meant to put that in there. All these vehicles are "Snap together" get your fingers under the edge of the panel and ****** hard. It just pops out. In the last pix with the wiring tye wrapped you can see 2 of the many clips that snap together.
