Default 2015/'16 OEM Chrome Mirror Caps

Has anyone install a set of OEM chrome mirror caps on your standard power mirrors? I was just wondering how well they fit and how difficult the original caps are to remove.

Some take the mirror glass off, and remove the 4 torx screws!

Others like myself, gently pryoff the caps. I was lucky enough, to not break any plastic tabs on the origonal mirror caps. When I swapped mine for painted ones.

I watched a video where they recommended not to remove the mirror glass because it's easy to break.

Yeah, on my 12, I removed the glass atleast 3x.

When I saw all the connectors behind the glass on my 16, I was like F that! I just put a fingernail under the origonal mirror cap, held the mirror body against my chest. I gave the cap a good gentle tug, and it easily started popping off, another tug, I had the whole cap removed.

Took me less than 5 minutes, to remove the old black caps, and install my new painted ones...

Thanks for the input. Looks great! I can't decide whether to install chrome or color-matched.

Depends, if you already have Chrome, go chrome. If you have a Sport model, go Painted, looks Best imo...

If I had the Chrome Package, on my XLT, instead of the Sport, I would of went with Chrome caps...

I think its silly Ford, left the mirror caps black on XLTs. Should of put chrome or painted on them, depending on the package selected!

I put the chrome caps on my XLT. Do a search - there are some good threads - one in particular that shows step by step photos. After studying at length I decided to take the proper "long" way and remove glass, etc.

After studying the design and doing some "test pulls" on the existing parts, I was very doubtful about being able to just pull it apart without breaking plastic tabs, etc. Some have done it successfully but I didn't want to chance it. Actually, doing the recommended procedure is neither difficult nor time-consuming - that's the way I'd recommend doing it.

I'm changing my '16 XL Sport a little. I've already swapped the painted bumpers for chrome bumpers. I'll be changing grill as well when I find the chrome grill I'm looking for. In my case I'm leaning more for the chrome mirror caps. What do you think?
