Default 2.7 with a tune?

So I just recently bought a used truck. It was a 2018 Sport 4x4 with a 2.7 and 60K miles. This came from my long time Ford dealer and this truck was FAST! That thing would really scoot. But as it turns out, I found a lot of rust underneath (The truck came from MI) and it had some front end steering issues that I couldn't resolve. The best I could do with it, really babying it, and even taking a 3 hour trip on 55-65mph roads was right about 16-17mpg, it really was thirsty too.
I took advantage of the dealers generous return policy and brought the truck back after a few weeks. I instead bought an almost new Platinum with only 7K on it and a 3.5, this truck is no where near as fast, it feels like a regular truck as far as power goes BUT, just in city driving I am averaging almost 19mpg!

Do you think somebody put some sort of tune on the 2.7 as some point? Or is the 2.7 really so much faster than the 3.5?

My tuned 2.7 is very quick and gets the same MPG it did before the tune.

Sounds like Turbo issues. Less power/better gas mileage....

The 2.7 is a great engine but it's not going to run circles around the 3.5TT.

Yeah, so I did some more driving this morning. First of all, the new truck feels at least twice as heavy as the old one. The old one was an XLT, and the new one is a Platinum. The new one is plenty fast... if I floor it, I seem to get about 18lbs of boost.. it doesn't quite get to 20lbs on the gauge. It sounds WAY different, the 3.5 seems to have more of a V8 sounding growl where the 2.7 was much more 'electric' feeling (smooth?).

They might be close, but seat of the pants tells me the XLT with the 2.7 was quicker. The Platinum seems to take a bit more to get it moving. I wonder what the weight difference is in these trucks.

different gear set would be a big factor too.

No experience with the 2.7 but a tuned 3.5 is a whole different animal from a stock one

Why isn't your question more about your current truck..... "why is my new truck so slow".

The 2.7 is quicker off the line. There are several things that help/hurt both trucks but that's going to take 1.5 days of asking questions to get to the bottom of it.

I'm sure you'll hear plenty of answers you 'want to hear', but seems odd that you had issues with a truck, parted ways with it then joined a forum to talk about it.

Weight especially, and gearing to a lessor degree (with the 10AT EB's), will make a noticeable difference.

If in fact the 2.7 truck was tuned, it would be very apparent compared to stock 3.5.

What year is your Platinum? I assume a 2020 with 7k miles, maybe a 2019.
If you have an older model, you might have 'fake engine noise" tricking you to the V8 sound. I think 2017 was the last year, maybe even 2016. However I don't think the B&O sound system incorporated the fake noise -that was set up to the Sony System only as far as I know.
So if you have a 2018+, and/or B&O sound system, you probably do not have fake engine noise.
Others can help confirm what year they ended that enhancement.

So to answer a few questions... the new truck is a 19, it was delivered new in 2020 though. The new truck has 3.55 e-lock, the old 2.7 (2018) had 3.73 e-lock.

The new truck isn't slow. As a matter of fact, my best friend has a 2020 Platinum with the 5.0 and we went to lunch together today, he drove mine and really got on it and said my 3.5 feels about the same as his 5.0 in power.

The previous 2.7 was really fast. My grown son drove the 2.7 and said it was much faster than his 2019 RAM with a 5.7. I'll presume something had been done to the 2018 2.7 to make it fast, I bought it from the Ford dealer and had no history on it.
