2.7 Knocking on Start Up
My 2017 2.7 Ecoboost has done this from day one. When starting the engine, whether it has sat for an hour or a week, doesn't matter, for about 1 to 2 seconds it makes a low knocking sound. Like the lifters are not pumped up from the oil yet. I can see this happening if it sat for a month, but it can literally sit for an hour and upon start up it does this then immediately goes away. Dealer says it is normal as it takes a second for the oil to circulate and it causes no damage.
My 3.5 never did this so I am not sure. Is this normal for the 2.7's?

This is not a push rod engine with lifters, you have bigger problems if it is knocking. It is DOHC.

My 2017 2.7 started having a knocking/clacking sound after starting the engine a few hundred miles into it. I did some research on the Internet and found someone had a similar problem. They stated that sometimes the oil filter/gasket isn't tight from the factory. Since I don't change my own oil, I took it to a Ford quick lane and had them change the oil and filter. They couldn't understand why I would want it changed with only 1,200 miles on it at the time. I told them it was easier to try this solution than wait around for them to try and diagnose it. The bottom line is getting the oil and filter changed fixed the problem. It hasn't happened since.

Glad to hear there was a simple solution to this. I just changed my oil, and I guess the filter O ring is doing its job.
