Default 2.7 EB Starter Reliability

Hello all. About a month and a half ago I bought a 2WD XLT SCREW with the 2.7 EB. So far I love the truck and the gas mileage. (Better than my 2014 GT with track pack) I am getting an average of 22 mpg mixed city and hwy but in the afternoon I sit in a lot of stop and go traffic and the auto start/stop happens a lot. During my last commute I was wondering if the starter is going to be able to hold up to all this use over time. I mean I've had to replace starters before on vehicles and it was only getting normal use. Now this thing is getting used at least 10x as much. I know I can turn it off but I was just wondering if anyone know of anything that was different about the starter on these new trucks?

Starter is still a brushed type, so it won't last as long. It's sad that manufacturers haven't gone brushless yet.

Where do you live and where's your commute at what time? It seems to me most traffic doesn't completely stop that often so i was thinking it probably wouldn't engage much in traffic.

Put your mind at ease.

I am quoting from Ford's technical brochure:

"The engine’s ability to withstand repeated stop/starts was validated with more than 900 test hours simulating 240,000 starts and stops"

That would put it at over 65-66 stop/starts a day for the next 10 years

Here is the official Link to the document.

The head Ford engine engineer talked about this in an interview also. He said they put the starter through several orders of magnitude more rigorous stress testing. Auto start/stop isn't all that new and I really haven't heard any horror stories about starters going out early among any manufacturers.

Thanks for the information. I figured Ford would do their homework on this before releasing it to the masses.

Of all the problems people have, I don't see anyone having failed starters, just worriers.
