Hello all. I am preparing to do the oil change on my 2015 2.7. Here is the magic question. Where to buy the o-ring for the drain plug? I went to the dealer and they told me it only comes with the whole drain plug. I asked the service manager what they do when they change the oil and they re-use the o-rings unless they are leaking...

I am not in the habit of re-using o-rings and would like to get my hands on a few of the o-rings. They are not listed in the parts catalog either. Any suggestions or is is best to take the wait till it leaks attitude with the engine's blood?

 

I'm also surprised by not replacing the plug o ring. They include the three for the filter but not the one for the drain plug.

 

It can be reused. It's the same drain plug used on the older powerstroke and those have been used over and over for close to 10 years now, they don't leak. Where I work we do not replace them.

 

They must have started using them on the 6.4?

 

We don't replace them either. 50+ cars a day and never had a Ford plug like ours leak.

 

How about the Harbor Freight o-ring kit for like $10 (5 on sale)

 

Yeah and went back to the normal plug on the 6.7

 

any update whether or not those o-rings have to be replaced from time to time? It's going to be my 4th oil change. Also, any particular size /brand you recommend?
