Default 17 using oil

I use about a quart of oil between oil changes is that bad? I read about the 18 models troubles but nobody mentioned the 17 having any trouble. I use penzoil 5w20 synthetic.

Without saying which engine or how many miles between oil changes, impossible to answer.

My 2017 5.0 burns no oil between oil changes. I do a full synthetic oil change at the dealership every 5,000 miles. I know I could go longer between oil changes, but I only put about 8,000 miles per year on the truck and plan to keep it a long time.

It's a 5.0. I usually change it when the dash says 30 percent oil life left. I thinking around 7000 miles or so.

I'm sure there are guys that would trade you in a heartbeat for an engine that only burns a quart in 7000 miles.
If it were me, I'd do oil changes at 3000 so it would only burn less than a half quart. hee hee
If you like the Pennzoil Platinum, try the high mileage version for a change and see what it does but 1 quart in 7000 miles is very acceptable.
I think the 2018 and up is not considered a concern until consumption gets over 1 quart in 3000 miles, and they changed the dipstick to give it an almost 2 quart operating range so users wouldn't worry as much when checking it.
