13th Gen Reliability Data
Disclaimer: this is not a post to win an argument lol
Threads regarding which engine/transmission to buy are obviously not an uncommon topic. Usually the threads are filled with opinions (me included) that are sometimes based on nothing, knowing owners, reading forums, being on social media groups, and owning the truck.
I would say the majority dont or havent owned multiple configurations of the same generation of truck for good reason.
With that being said, does anyone actually have the data for the following:
-Average life of common configuration in mileage until catastrophic failure (engine/transmission replacement required)
-Average life of common configuration in years until catastrophic failure (engine/transmission replacement required)
-Number of warranty claims per configuration
-Average cost of repair over a specific duration of time (3yr, 5yr, 10yr, and so forth)
-Average cost of repair over a specific mileage (36k, 60k, 100k, 150k, and so forth)
Any other important data points missed?
I would say configurations would be (all 13th gens of course):
2.7 6spd
3.5 6spd
5.0 6spd
2.7 10spd
3.5 10spd
5.0 10spd
I would leave out the V6 NA as i dont think they represent a large enough group. I would also probably need to include 4x4 vs 4x2 as IWE and transfer cases would impact the results.
Really excited to see how long it takes for the first, "no but i know XX engine and XX transmission is the best based on me and the boys talking at jiffy lube"

I get the point about the maintenance history but some data would still be useful, at least in a general sense…especially for the specific components. If a transmission doesn’t need to be serviced until 60k at the earliest, then numbers pertaining to transmission issues under warranty would still be somewhat valid…despite not knowing driving conditions.
Brands and models are ranked every year by a few sources (JD Power, consumer, KBB), they have to be pulling data from somewhere.

No, it's not broken down by engine/trans configuration. It's not even broken down by 150/250/350/450. But I think it confirms the general impression you get from this forum: the 2011-2016 trucks have pretty stellar powertrain reliability, whereas the 2018+ and the 2004-2010 trucks suck.
