Default 10R80 Failure

Today I was pulling an unloaded 6X12 covered trailer. Running about 75-80. Transmission temperatures are always 185-205. I felt two hard shifts from 9 to 8 on some inclines. Afterwards the temperature started rising quickly. Was approaching 250 when I reached a rest stop. As I pulled to a stop I could smell it. Got out and saw smoke from underneath and fluid dripping. Undercarriage was stained with fluid. Game over!

So you blew a transmission line / lost some fluid and it's game over?
Am I watching CNN here or what?

Due the jerk it made on the downshifts I suspect more than a leaking line. I hope you're right. It never overheated so hopefully no major damage from that. I did overheat myself though.

So did you get it towed? Or did someone fix it on the spot.
You dont hear about too many blown transmission lines on 3 year old trucks.

I had it towed to a shop that does all the local Ford warranty work. Not sure what the problem is yet. I'll be updating later.

My guess is the fluid leak was from the heat spewing out the vent. Heat=massive expansion. Source of the heat and clunking/jerking and whatnot is a different story.
