1 to 3 second delay on start?
2018 XLT 2.7l and 9k miles. In the last month I turn the ignition, gauges come on but sometimes there is a 1 to 3 second delay then the engine turns over and starts. Anyone else experiencing this issue?
Yes. Only under certain conditions.
Long drive, cruise set at 70 for over hour, shut engine off for less then two minutes than start. Coming home from work I stop at post office box to get mail. Only time I have noticed it.It is not every time.
Maybe truck computer. Truck is a 3.3 and has 43,285 miles. Does not happen often enough to worry me.

Mine does this occasionally. Not every time, no rhyme or reason... I have the 5.0 though. I always get in, turn the key to start and release, usually starts immediately, sometimes it waits till I have completely taken my hand off the key before turning over and starting.
Start is completely computer controlled, the ignition switch is basically sending a 'please start' request, the computer does the rest. In older vehicles, sometimes the engine wouldn't fire right up, it would take a second or two for no apparent reason. Now, the computer can delay engaging the starter if a system is slow to wake up, can't be reached immediately because of bus noise, a sensor doesn't respond immediately, etc.
I know its an old thread, but for some reason my 2019 has started doing this more frequently, and yesterday after a 40 mile drive, and 10 minute stop, it didn't start at all, and finally gave a warning cel of hill assist malfunction. not sure if they are related. tried again, and it started normally and no warnings....this could be sign of a weak battery, but based on starter performance and only a 9 month old battery, i doubt it was a battery issue.
There have been some reports of heat-soaked starters not working after running the engine for a while. It's also possible for a 9 month old battery to have a low charge if most of your trips are brief. I'd start by getting the battery load tested, which is free at many auto parts stores and service centers. If it's not getting fully recharged, get a tender and hook it up overnight once in a while.

Just because this thread "caught my eye". I think the "gave a warning cel of hill assist malfunction" might be a good clue. The ABS module will hold the brakes ON for about 1.5 seconds before releasing. Sooooo - the time interval seems similar. CAN ANYONE THINK OF SOMETHING poss related to the OP issue? Brake applied signal delayed? or ???????
