I managed to tear off one of the tailgate bumpers on my '18 XLT 6.5 bed. Got a new one(Expensive!) from the local dealer today. Given the high price, I want to make sure I don;t damage the new one during install. It looks like you poke the pin into the hols and then screw the fastener in which expands the fastener inside the hole and then tightens it down. Can anyone confirm or correct me please? Mount with bumper removed Old piece just sitting in hole loose.
I think this fastener in this bumper might be called a "scrivet?" Kind of like a hollow wall anchor if anyone has used one of those?
I put the piece in the hole with the "guide" end of the fastener through the hole. It looked like all I had to do was pop the screwhead to push the fastener into the hole then screw it in to tighten it down. Got it lined up, popped it in ok, but turning the screw nothing happens as far as the fastener expanding inside hole to clamp the bumper in place. What have I done wrong?
Pic shows old broken fastener on left, new one on right. I can see at least part of the flange that I think should expand inside hole to clamp it down
