Transmission problems
Hey guys I normally don't do forums but I figured I would try this out because I'm all out of ideas. I have a 97 F150 with the 4.6. 210,000 miles. I know that's a lot and pretty sure I'm gonna know the answer to my question, but I can't buy a new truck right now so I need to fix this one. My tranny stopped pulling earlier in the week so I parked it. Today I got around to working on it. It would pull in forward and reverse until it got hot, then seemed like it was slipping but not completely grabbing the correct gear. I changed the transmission range sensor and after installation cranked it up and began to back out of the shop and the truck was going forward. I adjusted the TR Sensor and tried again, but to no avail. The transmission will go far ward in all gears, even reverse, neutral, and park!! Any ideas?? The TR sensor seems to be correctly mounted and adjusted properly. It is the E4OD transmission by the way. Any help would greatly be appreciated.
The mileage on the motor isn't bad. My 97 had over 300K before I was rear ended and totalled. Maintenance is key. Did you routinely change the tranny fluid and filter? I'm not very knowledgeable on the inner workings of trannies, but sounds like you need an overhaul or replacement.
