Default Replace PCV with Breather?

I need to replace my pcv valve, and thought about using a breather/filter and pluging the hose. Anyone tried this? I figured that keeping the oil mist out of the a/f would would result in it runnig better and keeping the intake track cleaner.

Default PCV system

You asked if you should, I replied no. Your engine control unit is designed for PCV. It would change the fuel mixture and timing and create a worse condition and damage to your motor, plus put harmful emissions back to the atmosphere. Filtered air goes thru the valve to the motor. A clean PCV in good operationg condition means a good running motor if all else is in good condition. PCV was the 1st step in controlling emissions, without it your rig won't pass inspection and you will receive a hefty fine for removing it. No is your correct answer.

And dont forget oil all over the engine or if you were to run it out the bottem oil all over the under side of your truck and besides pcv valves and a new hose are dirt cheap. If you have so much blowby that its contaminating your air filter or MAF senser its time for a ring job or a catch can to collect the oil. Bubbabud 2011 XLT SCAB Ecoboost

Thanks. I didn't know it would effect the way it ran. What about just adding an out seperator?

An aftermarket air filter system uses oil sprayed on the element to help with better air filtration. If you change your PCV and you still have your air filter clogging with oil particles rapidly look at getting another rig soon. Bad blow by from broken piston rings can't be fixed cheaply. If you have one of the newer aluminum motors they are flame-sprayed and canot be rebored. Must be flame-sprayed cylinder liners with same size pistons. A PCV valve in poor condition will pass a lot of oil, also engine timing can create same condition if cam lobe are worn or cam adjusters are faulty. You have to be very careful about the changing the emisions control equipment design as it is against the law to modify it away from factory design. Off road is another horse, but that can get tricky. An L&S seperator would be brand of choice with a turbo and intercooler. Otherwise probably a waste of money. If you are using a lot of oil overfilling the crankcase would add to your problem. If you don't use oil you might try lowering the oil level on the dipstick from over full to slightly below full. Another thing that happens to motors modified crankcase pressures blow out the seals and oil runs out everwhere until the pressure is relieved. That is what the PCV does, it keeps crankcase pressures ok and with the ECU, catalytic convertor, and fuel injection it burns it safely with lowest emissions.

I don't get any oil residue on my air filter. My valve started buzzing, and needs to be replaced. I don't have any signs of excess blow by, but I'm sure it has some oil mist to it.
