Default rebuilt or used engine

Recently I replaced the cap phaser, sensors, and timing chain on my 05 f150 with 112,000 miles, and now I have a knock in the lower part of the engine when the truck is warmed up. I was told I should try to find a used engine and replace it. I was wondering if I should find a used engine or should I pull this engine out and have it rebuilt? If someone suggest it being rebuilt what do you think would be an average price to get it rebuilt by someone. I have done some research and found out that on average it cost about $600-800 rebuild kit.

Sounds like a great reason to upgrade!

600 to 800 to rebuild is fair, I did a motor swap with a used motor with 12,000 miles on it and it ran me about 1,500 total. That was with me doing all the work. Then there where a few sensors that needed replaced. Odd and ends. The good thing about a rebuild is you know the parts will fit.

There is no particular brand of oil required just a certain viscosity and API or material standards rateing found in the owners manual or on several web sites I prefer to use a synthetic oil for longer service intervals and better cold start and hot weather thermo break down performance but reg oil or syn blend will work just fine. I pesonaly use motercraft brand because it is readley available and is ofcoarse what Ford rcomends

It always looks better to have your engine rebuilt rather than buying a used engine and putting up with it. Always take care to get a proper help from a technically good mechanic so that you will have proper information before hand.
