Default Over heating!

Ok, my truck shows it's overheating if it sits still for too long(I.e. Drive thru or long stop light) so I'm getting tired of it so I crank the heater all the way and hope nothing happens! The coolant level is good and doesn't leak and the truck doesn't act any diffrent like smelling diffrently, run rough, or any other obvious signs of over heating

Thanks I'll check that here in a little bit! It's mighty brisk this fine northern Ohio morning! If it is the fan then I'm just going to switch to an electric sooner than I thought

Are you getting heat from your heater?

Could be a water pump, but if its cooling down once underway then it would indicate your fan clutch.

Thermostat will be the cheapest easiest check. I would start there. Had same problem. Thermostat fixed it for me.

Thanks guys sorry I haven't been on in a while, as the temp gauge rises the heat turns cold and I'm guessing the t-stat is bad because I decided to turn it on vent and noticed if there is a load on the motor the temp stays down and the heat stays plenty hot
