Default Oil

Hi Guys
Just wondering about something.I have an F150 STX with the 4.6 liter engine.Ford says use 5w-20 synth oil which I do.However I am concerned if I have enough protection with this lubricant when the engine is up to normal operating temp?Warm weather is coming soon&just want to be sure.I would feel comfortable with a 5w 30 oil, knowing that the engine would be fine.Any pointers would be appreciated&Thanks...Pete

I use the 5w-20 as recommended. Drive all the time in temps as high as you will probable encounter. I have brutally tortured my little 4.2 v-6, 3000 RPM, 2nd gear pulling my boat up a 14 mile grade with a 2900 foot elevation change with OAT leaving ramp 115 or more. Bottom line, same truck has 182K and goes 5k with no oil useage.
