What have been your experiences with the engline life of the 4.6's and the 5.4's in 97-03 models?

well i got 1997 with 5.4 with like 130,000 apx miles and im very hard on my truck and its still going strong. The only thing i replace on the engine itself was the A/C pulley. And as in being hard i mean 75+, fast takeoffs, burnouts, drifting, powerbrakeing, this was done at 120,000

doing lots of that and the trany and engine still work great! Tho i just might be lucky.

We use the 4.6s at work, and run them pretty hard, they spend a lot of time idling, even the ones with 125k on them still run good. Never have any major repair issues.

I have almost 160k on my 97 4.6 Runs real smooth and has good oil pressure. I've seen 200k plus in many F150's with the original engines. If you do regular oil changes and don't abuse the engine (revving while cold, not doing regular maint. or just plain hammering on it) I can see them going 220k plus before needing a rebuild.

I had 180k on my 2002 when i got rid of it, it still ran great, towed a race car with it, and used it for a constrution truck. I owned it sence new, and other then a spark plug poping out, ($100 to fix it) the motor ran flawless, never been apart, lots of power and didn't burn oil.
But I did my oil changes everytime!!!!!
I have seen on 97 f150 with a 4.6 with 360K and still ran great, i couldn't beleive my eyes when i saw the dash.

one of the best motors i ever owned

as long as the fluids are changed and nothing is leaking, it should be fine.
